I think he was one of the more genuine 6fters in his prime, at times looking slightly over it. In the 80's-90's when he was slim and had very good posture, could look near 6ft1. 182cm range today is definitely closer though. At 60 he's lost a centimetre.

Editor Rob 5.5 is in the territory of the 7ft+ giants. Hanks does look to have a pretty equal eye-skull and eye-chin, so it might be close to 5 inches.

Editor Rob there's a lot of guys in 50's or just turning 60 who may have only dipped a 1/4 inch or near half inch. I think for Hanks, he is a case. I still think 6ft then and 11.5 now might be ok, although I can see an argument at times for an 'almost 6ft'.

Hanks still looks pretty tall in a lot of Bridge of Spies but not a particularly tall cast in that. An older and slouchy Alan Alda looked no taller but Sebastian Koch wasn't much different height than Hanks and is under six feet I believe.

As i said before, IMO he was very very close to 6' during 80's...
he maybe was 182,5-183 cms averagely in the evening...I think he was weak/flat 6', not strong one (183-183,5 cms) like Hayden Christensen, Chris Walken, David Duchovny or others...

Editor Rob the middle of the camera is probably right around his chin area, so somewhere in 5ft 3 range chin + head and you have 6ft and a bit on average. Then minus shoes and add back what he'd be in a measured pose...I think close to 6ft is quite possible, but unfortunately it's always harder to tell how much he might lose.

He was shorter than Denzel a good few years ago, and Denzel got downgraded to 5'11.75. I think Tom should at least be downgraded to 5'11.75, although he seemed the same height as Denzel in bigger footwear at the time. I'd say 5'11.5 range for Tom these days is more likely than him still being 6ft flat.

He doesn't look 6'0" at all there. If you cropped out Freeman and Goldblum and just compared him to Will Smith he does look 6'0", but if you cropped out Will Smith and compared him to the other 2 it's hard to put him over 5'10.5".

He doesn't look 6'0" at all there. If you cropped out Freeman and Goldblum and just compared him to Will Smith he does look 6'0", but if you cropped out Will Smith and compared him to the other 2 it's hard to put him over 5'10.5".

Hanks has always been a legit 5'11" range but not quite 6'0", 181/182 cm is likely. It's very possible he wore lifts to help play a particular role, like in Road to Perdition. He's not always living in them like Sly though.

In Splash he looked barely shorter than 6'2" John Candy in some scenes. Also in Dragnet he only looked a fraction shorter than 6'1" Dan Aykroyd, I think he was a good 6' at his peak. Today he could be 5'11.5" or so but in his prime I wouldn't buy anything under 6 ft 0 in.
