Anthony’s performance in ‘Magic’ is just SO terrific! I found that the Talking Pictures channel is showing it tonight. I watched it with my Mum one Christmas - 1978, to be exact - and my Mum loved it. We were both equally terrified!

Anthony was 39 when this film was made. Co-starring the short but powerful Burgess Meredith, and directed by Richard Attenborough, this has to be one of my favourite of Hopkins’s films EVER. Talk about a disturbed young man merging into his vintriloquist’s dummy, you won’t find a more convincing performance than Anthony’s….. 🙊

Possibly 5ft9.25 at this age, this is what he’s getting from me, with 5ft8 for today’s height. 😌👌🏼

Oh NO! 😂😂😂 South Park have likened a case of ‘toilet papering’ a teacher’s house to the crimes committed by Hannibal Lecter, with a serial toilet papering criminal boy
in the same sort of prison cell as Doctor Lecter!

I saw ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ within the past few days, and I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen it in all, opening my viewing history with a trip to the cinema. My Scrabble mate,
Sean, saw it more times than he could account for, and if he was a little late for the commencement of one of our ‘matches’, I knew he’d be at the pictures. 📽

🤫🐑🐑

The toilet papering miniature crook is an artist, just like Hannibal, and comes out with, “Quit pro quo…”.

Then he sees pictures of the scene of the crime. “Not bad work! Not bad at all! These toilet paperers are professionals - at least one of them is…..”

The close-to-tears officer Barbrady then has to give up some deep personal trauma from his past before the black-haired imp fills him in with his synopsis of the likely culprits. “Your toilet paperers are most likely males, between the ages of 8 and 10. Parents notice that much toilet paper missing, so they’ll have likely bought it themselves. Find out where the toilet paper came from and you just might catch your man!”

🧻🧻🧻🧻🏠🧻🧻🧻🧻

South Park often do takes on films, but this one has to be my favourite. I hope Anthony Hopkins has seen the cartoon - he’d find it hilarious!

I reckon during his early films, for instance ‘Magic’, which I highly recommend, Anthony measured in at 5ft9.25. Nowadays, he’s nearer the 5ft8 mark, so these are the heights I will put for him.

Maybe near 5ft 10
Rising174cm said on 13/Nov/21
I agree that he's probably now 172 at 80+, but if anything, his peak is slightly low and both Mel Gibson and John Hurt are listed a half inch too high, especially compared to Hopkins in the 80s. Hurt wasn't less than an inch shorter and Gibson was shorter than Hopkins, even though Mel had more footwear in the best scene for comparing. I think his head and build made him appear shorter.

The only weird thing about Hopkins is that he didn't seem above 5'8" next to Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black at age 60, but he was clearly taller than Antonio Banderas in The Mask of Zorro around the same time. Banderas is also listed a half inch too high, imo, but that'd still mean 60 year old Hopkins had to be at least 5'8.5".

So, peak was more like 176 cm, imo, 174 cm at age 60 and 172 cm at 83. He may have still been a full 5'8" until sometime between age 75 and 80.

Anthony is so much shorter than Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Dr Hannibal Lecter in the TV series. 😲

Peak height - 5ft9 and an inch less today. Sir Anthony can be seen at his peak height in a film called 'Magic', which I thoroughly recommend. He stars with Swedish actress Ann-Margret and the brilliant little fellow, Burgess Meredith, whose films never fail to amaze me! 👌

Next to those two, Mr Hopkins looked rather tall. 📏🤭 I estimated him to be above average when I first saw the movie, which showed one Christmas in the late 70s. My Mum saw it too, and was absolutely terrified! 🎄

Rising174cm said on 2/Apr/21
@Genau: Spot on peak, though I'd say more 172 today and not as low as 171 unless he's lost more height the last few years.

Anthony looked about the same height as 5'8" Mark Wahlberg in this video from 2016: Click Here He's edged by Marky Mark in this 2017 photo with a roughly 5'9.5" Matt Damon also seen: Click Here but their footwear shows Wahlberg was wearing Timberlands: Click Here I think Timberlands add at least 1.5" or even a bit more since I measured myself at a hair over 5'10" in Timbs, but only measured 5'9" in Converse on a stadiometer. You could probably say 172 cm in that photo with Damon and Wahlberg, but this 2017 photo also shows Hopkins still measuring up well to Wahlberg: Click Here Then you have a basically 76 year old Hopkins still pulling off a solid 5'8" with 190 cm Chris Hemsworth: Click Here and the photo above with a possibly 172 cm RDJ, whom I assume forgot the lifts in his sneakers that night. As I've previously said, Hopkins was more than an inch taller than RDJ in Chaplin, iirc.

So it seems Hopkins held on to a full 5'8" throughout his early to mid 70s, but was looking more 172 cm by the time he approached 80. After seeing him in the 80s with Derek Jacobi, Mel Gibson and John Hurt, I think 176 cm is a good bet. It's interesting that this would mean he lost 2 cm from his peak by age 60 and then another 2 cm between 60 and 80.

Peak 175-176 but today between 171 and 172
Rising174cm said on 21/Jan/21
Now that I'm convinced enough that Mel Gibson was a full 5'9"(though not much, if anything more), I'd give Hopkins at least a solid 5'9" or around 176 cm peak. He was consistently as tall, or really, slightly taller than Gibson In The Bounty. Even giving taking away the maybe 2 degrees of tilt from the face to face scene and comparing eye level to account for the camera, Hopkins is still at least as tall in the face to face scene: Click Here And in that scene, Gibson really had more footwear as Hopkins wore these shoes for the entire film: Click Here while Gibson wore these brown boots in scenes like that: Click Here and in other scenes, they wore the same shoes: Click Here

Here's a still from another scene: Click Here

But I've seen many more Hopkins films from the 70s and 80s and he could look a solid 5'9" in others, too. For instance, he looked at least that with 6'1" listed Freddie Jones and John Hurt, whom I suspect was about 5'8", in The Elephant Man, although 5'11" listed John Gielgud was perhaps still a couple of inches taller and 75+ at the time. He also didn't look much different than 5'9.5" peak listed Derek Jacobi in The Tenth Man(1988), though I can't rule out a half inch difference. But he looked an easy 5'9"+ in The Lion In Winter with Peter O'Toole and Timothy Dalton and Katharine Hepburn. Even as late as Chaplin, 176 cm looked possible with 172 cm Downey as Hopkins was easily a good inch to an inch and a half taller. Granted, his character was described as 5'8"-5'9" in Audrey Rose(1977), but he held up better than 5'9" flat in that same film with 6'2" listed John Beck.

Really, the only thing that puzzles me about Hopkins is that he struggled with 5'8" at barely 60 in Meet Joe Back since Brad Pitt was definitely about 3" taller, but he was taller than 5'8" Antonio Banderas in The Mask of Zorro that same year and it's hard to imagine Banderas didn't have thick footwear. In his actual prime, he did pretty consistently look 176 range in all of his films I remember seeing.

Further to my comment written on Mads Mikkelsen's page the other day regarding Hannibal Lecter's demanding of good behaviour, I saw 'The Silence of the Lambs' a few nights ago, and I didn't regard Hannibal's treatment of the two poor prison officers who came to feed him the height of good manners at all!
He must have been bloody strong though, but his methods are more reliant on craftiness and careful planning than anything else.

Rising174cm said on 2/Jan/21
I agree. I'd say maybe 172 cm in recent years. However 5'9" is a better peak listing than the old 5'8.5" because I've seen him look a bit over 5'9" in some of his 70s and 80s films and not only in The Bounty. He was about 5'8" flat a decade ago.

Rob, mightn't a current listing that is more in line with the average guess be better suited for Anthony at this point? Like you said when he was 75-76 he still looked like a big 5'8 next to Chris Hemsworth at the Thor: The Dark World premiere however I think that he might be more of a weak 5'8 nowadays. Take a look at these pictures of him next to Mark Wahlberg at the U.S. premiere for Transformers: The Last Knight back in 2017: ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) ( Click Here ) Hopkins was 79-80 years old at the time these pictures were taken and due to the fact that his hair is looking rather wispy I would say that he's only 172cm at this point next to Wahlberg. Rob, will you please give him a current listing of 5'7.75?

Watched The Edge (1997) recently, where Hopkins was with Alec Baldwin. I was thinking a strong 5'8", 5'8.25", for most of his career and probably 5'6"-5'7" today. Not buying the 5'9" peak. Brad Pitt and Aiden Quinn have a consistent 3 inches on him in Legends of the Fall, too.

He still seems a big 5ft 8 I think when photographed with Chris.
Rising - 174 cm said on 26/Dec/18
A 75-76 year old Hopkins didn't look too short with 6'3" listed Chris Hemsworth: Click Here He's held up well, similar to someone like Malcolm McDowell.

@Mark Harrison: That's pretty interesting since I had never really thought much about Hopkins being overweight before, but as I've said, I also figured his stocky build and big head make him seem shorter.
Mark Harrison said on 9/Jul/18
Hopkins was always overweight, so that may have caused him to appear shorter than his actual height. He had to lose weight to make "When Eight Bells Toll" when he was only 32.
Rising - 174 cm said on 2/Jun/18
@berta: He still looks roughly the same height as Marky Mark so I don't see him under 172 cm yet. I've seen a lot of his films from the 60's through 80's such as The Lion in Winter, A Bridge Too Far, Audrey Rose, The Elephant Man, The Bounty and The Tenth Man and I'd guess him about 5'9". I've seen Magic as well, but too many years ago to remember his height, though that film co-stars Ann-Margret and has Burgess Meredith in it so it might be useful for comparing. However, I'm certain Hopkins was taller than John Hurt and at least as tall as Mel Gibson, both of whom I'd guess a half inch shorter than their listings here. He really didn't look much different than Derek Jacobi, iirc, but a half inch shorter is possible.

But Brad Pitt is at least 3" taller in Meet Joe Black from the late 90's so either Hopkins lost some height by that point or Pitt really does wear big lifts.

EthanBlake said on 28/Feb/18

Rising - 174 cm said on 31/Jan/18
They used camera tricks for close ups to minimize differences, but even outside of that, he looked an easy 5'9" in The Lion in the Winter with Peter O'Toole and Timothy Dalton as well as Katharine Hepburn if she at 60ish was even the 5'5" she claimed at 85+. Even in Chaplin, he was noticeably taller than Robert Downey Jr. by what looked to me like more than an inch, perhaps an inch and a half. Then if you consider him face to face with Mel Gibson in The Bounty and a similar face to face of 176 cm Kurt Russell and Mel 4 years later, Hopkins looks taller by a similar amount as Kurt if you consider Kurt had a heel advantage over Mel while Hopkins never had more footwear than Mel in the film and they even wore the same shoes in some scenes. I think 5'9.25" peak is quite possible for Hopkins with perhaps his big head and stocky build making him appear shorter than he really was. I'm less certain of his height nowadays, but he seems about Marky Mark's height and not even much shorter than George Clooney as of last year so I wouldn't go below 172 cm.

Not that movie heights mean anything, but fwiw, his character was described as 5'8"-5'9" in Audrey Rose(1977). But John Beck is listed here at 6'2" and Hopkins didn't look less than 5'9" with him if that height is accurate. Hopkins had a decent heel on his shoe -- probably over an inch -- but nothing significant for the 70's and very likely not bigger than what Beck wore if you got a look at Beck's shoe(which I don't remember)
Rising - 174 cm said on 18/Nov/17
@Rob: I agree. Hopkins does a wonderful job in that film and shows he can get across compassion as easily as he can play more sinister characters. From what I've seen of him in the 80's, I wouldn't guess under 5'9" either. 5'9.25" is more than possible as well, especially with Mel in The Bounty.
Rising - 174 cm said on 30/Oct/17
5'9" looked about right in The Elephant Man as he was clearly taller than John Hurt, who was probably about 5'8" and Hopkins didn't look below this to me with Freddie Jones who is listed here at 6'1", but John Gielgud is listed here at 5'11" and was in his late 70's at the time, but still seemed clearly taller than Hopkins to me by perhaps a couple of inches. Maybe Gielgud really was 181 cm peak and hadn't lost much?
Editor Rob
guys like Hopkins make acting seem effortless. I think 5f 9-9.5 in the 80's wasn't impossible, but under 5ft 9 probably is harder to argue for him peak.
Mar3k said on 6/Oct/17
I think he is 5'7.85" (172cm) now and 5'9.5" (176cm) when he was young. I recently watched "The Elephant Man" and Anthony was looking like a average tall man so peak height between 5'9" and 5'9.5" without shoes seems right.
Rising - 174 cm said on 30/Sep/17
I'm not sure about the difference between 5'9" and 5'9.25" proportionately. I thought he could give a 5'8"-5'8.5" impression in some 90's films, especially Meet Joe Black where Pitt looked about 3" taller. But I'm not sure Hopkins was still peak height in the 90's as he turned 50 in 1987. But his stocky build and big head can definitely give a shorter impression. As I've said several times, I do think 5'9.25" is possible for the 70's and 80's.

@Slim: As I've said, I'm certain Hopkins was at least as tall as a 5'9" Mel Gibson throughout The Bounty with no footwear advantageif not a bit taller so I can't say 176 cm is impossible, but how did you determine his height from 'Lambs? There's only one low angle shot to compare him to Jodie Foster through his cell and in Hopkins 15 minutes of screen time he's usually alone in his cell only or getting wheeled around.

He does still look about as tall as Wahlberg: Click Here Click Here Click Here So being 5'8" or close to it at 79 years old certainly could fit with a solid 5'9" in his prime.

@Rob: I'm very curious to hear your 2 cents on the comparison between Hopkins and Mel Gibson. It's really what convinced me not only Gibson wasn't taller than 5'9", but that Hopkins could have been as tall as 5'9" himself. For the sake of convenience, I post again what I'd say is the best scene for comparing as it's only 1:29: Click Here

Have I erred in assuming that based on this and other scenes, Hopkins may or may not have been taller, but was at least as tall as Gibson? Even the slight tilt doesn't seem enough to account for this given how close they're standing around 30 seconds and if you take a still and straighten it in photoshop, Hopkins still seems taller here, imo. Gibson seems to be standing perfectly straight and considering the two even wore the same shoes at one point, I don't see footwear as much of a factor. I know Arch Stanton's conclusion was the same, so what could we be overlooking here? Thanks.

These are examples of Hopkins with Mel Gibson. Face to face at 3:26 in this clip: Click Here You can see that here too in a wider shot around the 30 second mark: Click Here Now here is a video of Hopkins present day with Mark Wahlberg: Click Here And here he is again with Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon, who I'd give 5'9.5" and Rob has at a more solid 177 cm: Click Here Here's their footwear: Click Here Wahlberg was in Timberlands while I'm not sure what kind of shoes Hopkins has. Btw, Damon also had thick boots that night. Surely, even with a footwear disadvantage, Hopkins would be close to Wahlberg if he stood as straight. I think the difference between Pitt and Hopkins in Legends of the Fall was not as great as in Meet Joe Black? Either way, I think it's possible Hopkins peaked a solid 5'9", but then throughout the 90s when he achieved more of an iconic status as Hannibal Lector, he was 5'8.5" in middle age and is now hanging on to about 5'8", possibly 172 cm.

Taller than I thought peak and currently. At least as tall as Mel Gibson, if not slightly taller in The Bounty and at least as tall as Wahlberg today. I see from the comments below that there's a bit of a debate going on about his youthful height! It might be worth taking a long hard look at him in the film 'Magic', and comparing him to 5ft4 Ann-Margret (who I thought was actually taller!)
It shows sometimes on the 'Horror' channel or, like me, you can pick up a 2nd hand copy for next to nothing in a charity shop or, of course, Amazon or Ebay.
When I first saw it, it terrified me, but I was only a kid! It's still very good even now, but has been downgraded to a '15' like so many, many films which used to be 'X' rated.

Realist said on 25/Aug/14
5'9 peak : A bridge too far, The Bunker etc.
5'8.5 mid : Remains of the Day, Silence of the lambs etc.
Today 5'7.75: Thor 1, Thor 2 etc.
Good listing Rob.

Editor Rob
yes gave him a slightly higher peak
Arch Stanton said on 11/Jun/14
I must be a real film buff as I recognized the Baroque room in The Bounty as the same one which featured in Amadeus, also 1984, probably filmed after each other!
Arch Stanton said on 11/Jun/14
Rob I saw The Bounty earlier, great film, he was terrific in it. But he definitely edged out Mel Gibson!! There is a scene wherr they're standing face to face in a cabin and he looked about 2 cm taller. Also he was stood next to Liam Neeson in it and Neeson didn't look 7 inches taller. Hopkins wasn't much under eye level, maybe 6 inches max.
Editor Rob
can't remember as much of the film
Arch Stanton said on 6/Jun/14
Julian Glover towered him in Juggernaut although he was nearer the camera. He looks 5 ft 9, but I wouldn't guess him higher than that in the film. 5 ft 10 in shoes peak seems to make sense.
Arch Stanton said on 6/Jun/14
Watching Juggernaut now :-)
Sam said on 6/Jun/14
He looks more 5'8" than anything over in the 90s with Jodie Foster.

I worked with him in 1992 on Chaplin He was between 5 ft9 and 5 ft10.
Editor Rob
you must have been a young kid then ;)
Arch Stanton said on 5/Jun/14
OK. I'll also try to see some more of his early films sometime and see what I get, Juggernaut would be a good one to see, I've not seen it yet. It might have just been his footwear or angle or something in Lion which made him look 5'10 but in The Elephant Man I think he did look a solid 5'9, he would have been early 40s then.
Arch Stanton said on 4/Jun/14

That's how the difference looked in the film. He'd have been 29 or 30 at the time. It's hard to see anything under 5'9.5". That might be a fair listing. I saw his footwear in the film and it didn't look suspicious either, normal medieval ankle boot things which seemed a fairly flat heel on them.
Arch Stanton said on 4/Jun/14
Rob, can you change the above then to peak and current? Honestly in Lion he actually looked a strong 5 ft 10! He really was a lot taller than Hepburn in it. Peak I think you'd be short changing him at anything under 175. How about 5'9.5" peak and 5'8.25" current? He looked very similar onscreen to Richard Burton. He's now something like 76 so should be 1.5 inches shorter on average. In Howard's End he looked a solid 5'9" guy. Perhaps 176 peak but I wouldn't argue anything lower.
Editor Rob
5ft 9 peak I think is ok till I have another look at him
Arch Stanton said on 3/Jun/14
he must have been wearing lifts in Lion's as he only looked about 3 inches shorter than O'Toole!!
Arch Stanton said on 3/Jun/14
Rob do you really think he was that low peak? I think more 5'9 range peak and 5'8" nowadays.
Editor Rob
that is a good possibility, 5ft 9 and 8 today, he can still look 5ft 8 range...
Arch Stanton said on 3/Jun/14
Looked a good 3 inches taller than Katharine Hepburn in The Lion of Winter. Actually looks nearer 5'10" next to her and Peter o Toole in it!
Realist said on 10/May/14
174-175 was his peak height i think he is more 171-172 now. This once again shows how people lie about their height 5'8 is not short but the men claiming are actually much less.
Arch Stanton said on 1/Apr/14
Silence of the Lambs/Hannibal, Rob covers those films with mentioning the first one.
Arch Stanton said on 30/Mar/14
Rob can you add Howard's End and Remains of the Day? They were super films. Looks about 5 t 9 next to Thompson and Bonham Carter in Howard's End.
mister_lennon said on 27/Mar/14
strong 5'9 peak. strong 5'8 today.

and bruce willis was 5'11 at peak, not 6. today, he is 5'10.
Sam said on 26/Mar/14
Yeah, I think Hopkins has lost a little height with age as he's in his 70s now. I doubt he was over the listing at his peak. His posture was great as recently as The Silence of the Lambs and looked about 5-6 inches taller than Jodie Foster considering footwear.
edguy282 said on 10/Mar/14
I think that it was possible that Anthony Hopkins was 5'8.5" when he was younger, but now he looks an inch or more shorter. When I see his frame now, I think he's my height, 171cm. So, I think he should be downgraded to 5'7.5".
Agio said on 24/Feb/14

He can't be more than 5'7" if he stands straight - I am 5'3" and he was standing not a foot away from me when we were talking. He is the same level of eye contact as my mom who is 5'7" This was 2011.
Matt said on 9/Aug/13
How accurate do you think this claim is? At times he could easily pull off 5'9".
Mooplefoo said on 30/May/13
If Brad Pitt is actually 5'11, then Hopkins has gotta be like 5'7 there was about a 4 inch difference between the two in meet joe black. Maybe he was once almost 5'8 but nowadays he's 5'7 maybe even a bit less.
Hew said on 9/Feb/13

Glad we are again able to comment on the star heights. Don't give up on this, because we can see lot of mistakes on celebrity heights.

Beatlefan said on 22/Dec/11
Anthony Hopkins is a method actor and his height and indeed weight vary in each film depending on who he plays. In Amistad he plays ex USA president John Adams and plays a shorter, older man and Hopkins is stooped down for the whole film. If you see him in the Hannibal Lecter films he stands much taller. Robert De Niro is also very famous for working in the same way.

In the film Magic another character refers to him as being 5'8". He surely wouldn't have wanted his height lowered if he is any taller than this! 5'8 or below definitely!
Charliemoto said on 12/Apr/08
i'd like to add that he is one of those actors that hasn't lost much height considering his age and the excessive life he led, give or take 1.5 or 2cm at most, from what i have seen from movies, images and the like since i'm a fan of his work he normally looked 5'10ish in shoes and 176cm barefoot.

now he looks a strong 5'9 in shoes and 174cm barefoot, sure he may look 173cm at times but that's because he tend to bend his back and his head when walking, i rarely see him walking military style he's pretty relaxed yet shows a big charisma and class.

the agency stating 5'10 probably in shoes he cannot be 5'10 barefoot for sure, WE KNOW lol

i don't mean to sound rude, but i am genuinely confused. the caption under picture says 5'8. fine, that tells me that compared to glenn, hopkins is in 5'9-5'10 region. but now new information tells me that glenn could be 5'7 in this photo which means hopkins could be 5'8-5'9 region. i don't want a fight...i just want to know how tall hopkins is!

I'm the one who met him in SA. I'm not saying that Sir Anthony is a 'freak', all I'm saying is that he has BIG HANDS - larger than normal hands than what you'd expect from a man of 5'7".

And, he's really handsome in person, big hands and all! :-)

This is somebody else's quote: "Anthony Hopkins was in San Antonio a couple of weeks ago where his [orchestral] music was performed for a charity benefit (who knew!?). I had the pleasure of meeting him. Very nice man! Very! He's 'short' though. I was surprised by how short he was - maybe 5'7". BUT he's not a 'tiny' man. He's very big chested and beefy and muscular upper body. AND his hands are HUGE!!! Very disproportionate to the rest of his body! Almost freakishly!? lol."

Physically, Mr Hopkins has never looked in the least freakish to me (besides when eating people's faces as Hannibal Lector). I think this poster reads far too many style magazines with 'perfectly proportioned' models in them. He's just a normal-looking guy or average height. Simple as. lol

The biggest problem on this site is that 80 % of people here don't even rely on pictures from premieres or something...noooo. They base their claims on movies...Wake up! Cruise 5'9"...where will this end? Cruise 6 feet...waiting for that one Anonymous.

On The Mask of Zorro when Hopkins is dressed up as a manservant and Banderas wears his big hat, he told to Banderas : "Stand you straight" Hopkins is lightly taller than Banderas so I don't know why you list Hopkins under Banderas ???

In the film Meet Joe Black, Brad Pitt was considerably taller than Hopkins.
Glenn said on 1/Apr/06
I have seen hopkins look 5-10.but also 5-8.so 5-7 is possible.
Frank2 said on 31/Mar/06
I watched Hopkins in a TV movie about the 1932 Lindbergh kidnapping case. He played convicted kidnapper Bruno Hauptmann. There's a lineup scene and behind him it's clear that the top of his head doesn't meet the 5'9" mark and that's with his shoes on so Hopkins might be even shorter than what's listed. Now, granted, the height marks could have been made smaller, but seeing that the set looked to be inside a real police station I doubt it. FYI Many TV movies use real locations as sets instead of building them on soundstages. They do this to save money. With a series where the same sets are used week after week it's a different story.
Frank2 said on 8/Mar/06

Interesting. But Jackie Chan and Richard Dreyfuss are also listed at 5'10 in their movies. I would support the 5'7 idea more because Hopkins is listed at that height in most places. Also, in the Hannibal role, he is 3 inches taller than Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore, who both stand at 5'4.
I'm such a dork! lol
JR said on 1/Feb/06
Hopkins should be 5'7, give or take a bit. They say Mel Gibson is no more than 5'9 and Hopkins seemed a little bit shorter than him in "The Bounty".
Tom Cruise, who is allegedly 5'7, also seemed a bit taller than Hopkins in MI2. But you can never rely on the way actors look on screen for accuracy.
