American actor best known for TV shows Miami Vice and Nash Bridges. A cameraman once said "DJ is NOT 5'11"! Although his official website says he is 6', he is actually closet to 5'9" or so. I am not very tall, somewhere in the 5'6" range on a good day. When we shot "Nobody Lives Forever" we were shooting the pool scene and DJ was standing next to me in bare feet when I turned to him and exclaimed..."Holy sh*t DJ, I think the water shrunk you...YOU'RE MY SIZE! To which he replied..."Shut up, R2!" His shoes were specially made with lifts in them".

I've been watching some old Miami Vice episodes. My conclusion is that Don was no more than 5' 9" then. Maybe a weak 5' 9" or a touch less. He looks at least 4 inches shorter than Gregory Sierra, who is billed as 6' 1", and four inches or so taller than 5' 5" Bob Balaban. Bear in mind that angles, shoes etc would have been arranged so that the show's star didn't look too short. Interestingly he looks about the same height as 6' Terry Wogan (Wogan's own measurement) in this clip but I suspect there was some lift action going on. Click Here. I looked into my instagram account that it says that DJ is 5'9 not 5'8 or 5'11 on the instagram account page called nevecarolvickifan84. I do think he needs a peak height. It's much more clear to me that he's lost a half inch than a guy like Gibson who is more than half a dozen years younger. I think 5'9" peak and 5'8.5" makes the most sense, but this listing is also certainly arguable for peak. But this photo with Jon Bon Jovi a few years ago indicates DJ is below 5'9" now: Click Here

I figured he'd claim 5'10". All of these guys around the 5'9" mark(Stallone, Gibson, Michael Douglas, Van Damme etc.) seem to claim that height. I still think Don was most likely 5'9" flat like the others seeing him with Olmos and Willis back in the 80s or Stallone over the years, but Don is the guy I have the easiest time buying at a fraction over outside of maybe a 1970s Michael Douglas.

In Nash Bridges, I would say Johnson has the edge on Perry. However, Perry’s posture varies a bit and Johnson’s deceitful footwear can make him look close to 5’11” at times.

Yeah, go to 22/Aug/20 for the still of DJ and Olmos face to face from the episode "No Exit" with Willis. Also, I noticed that in every photo of DJ and Sly taken between the early 90s and 2014, DJ never once looked taller. This included golf pics and both in dress shoes at Cannes 2014. DJ also came up to about Vince Vaughn's mouth in full shots a few years ago. I still say 5'9" peak and a half inch loss, but 5'9.25" peak and 5'8.75" current would be pretty safe. There's a chance of a solid 5'9"/176 cm as he possibly still edged Jamie Foxx promoting Django.

Something about the frame, the posture, something seeming kind of off when he sits down like his frame just isn't quite right for what it looked like standing up. Granted, I didn't think Don looked any taller than 5'9" flat in Miami Vice and I remember Bruce Willis being quite a bit taller than him in the episode he appeared in, but those shoes Don wore on Miami Vice looked like they barely added any height. 5'9.5" peak and current is the best guess, imo. He still looks a bit taller than 5'9" Jamie Foxx in similar shoes. Don did have cowboy boots with big heels, but assuming he didn't have lifts, his footwear advantage would only be 1/4" or 1/2" since Rourke had thick boots himself. DJ was the same height than olmos in vice. Olmos had thin heels shoes and DJ probably wore special slippers with inside heel (giving him 1 inch more). So I think the real height is between 5.7 and 5.8 so probably 5.7.5 (171,5 cm). 5.9.5 is impossible.

In Vice, DJ in slippers made with lifts (1,5 inche)is 1 inche max over Isy who is himself 1 inch higher in flat shoes than Phil Collins (who is short about 5.6). I just saw the fist original episode of Miami Vice yesterday and in many scenes DJ is about the same height than 5'9 Phillip Michael Thomas. However, there is a scene were they are barefoot in DJ's boat and you can cleary notice about 2 inches difference between them. I am sure that DJ was wearing lifts a lot of times in his career.

I attended high school with him in Wichita at South High School. In gym class, and in other classes together, we stood at the same height. That height is 5'8". In the photo of glenn with DJ, Melanie is as tall as DJ and perhas 1 inch taller (she is not straight). In this site melanie is cited to be 5.8.5 (174 cm). The difference with Glenn is due to lift wearing. Why, it should be not the case for Don, wearing in public show, special shoes with high lifts.

It´s a mistery. In Miami Vice, there´s no possibility of "lifts", as his sport shoes used to look too flat. I guess roughly 5´8", or 5´9" max.. I don´t agree with Ivan, as in the pic. above with Glenn there may be a pave or step "helping" Mr. Wayne Don Johnson.

Ok, it 's possible that DJ wore no lifts shoes in vice (at least in views where we can see the shoes). Shena easton is wearing some lifts (perhaps two inches, so 159 cm at maximum). DJ has 1 inch lift with flat shoes so 178 cm in the hypothese of 176 cm. The difference in the couple will be something as 20 cm and it is not the case. If DJ is a tall man,all the characters in vice did'nt need to be small size actors (shena Easton, EJO, Laura Santiago and so one). I wonder wether PM Thomas is really 5.10. In regards to the photos of Don with Mick's ex, if you look at the elevator shoes website, most shoes will make you 3.5" taller in height. Remember "Guilty as Sin". He looked tallish in dress shoes. DeMornay and everybody else in that movie would have to be downgraded quite a bit if DJ was 5-8. I'd say 5'2.5" +3" or 4" heels for DeMornay. And that doesn't say much for Tom Cruise in "Risky Business"

Side by side Stallone was taller than Johnson so if Stallone is 5'9", Don is 5'8". Mr A, Last time I saw Johnson was about seven years ago, and he was 5'8". I don't think he shrinked to 5'5" in seven years. Is that possible? My Grandfather was 6'2" in his prime, and in his 90's he had lost 3 inches. Last time we measured him before he past away last year, he was 5'11". I think Don is around 55 years old so a dramatic lost of height is very unlikely.

Don is not 5'9", he is 5'8". Edward James Olmos is listed here at 5'8.5" and he is taller than Johnson (that is a fact). It is time to downgrade him to 5'8" which is his real height.

Don Johnson is a short guy. He is lean and wears lifts in his shoes. Saw him a couple of years ago on a set wearing sandals and he is more like in the 5'8" range. Someone who knows him well told me he is even shorter now.

I have to say that I've seen better an episode of "Nash Bridges" where the camera was focus on his shoes. He had elevator shoes on!I think that at least 1 inch was inside that tipe of shoe.So I think that he can be only 5'9".

For those who still insist that Don Johnson is 5'10" I'd like to remind everyone that when he starred in the mediocre TV version of The Long Hot Summer he and Jason Robards were the same height. Robards was never more than 5'9" and in his later years (which is when this was made) was about 5'8". And when Cybil Shepherd is around she and Johnson are about the same height. That is until she wears heels. Then forget it!

I would say the vast majority of NBA players are measured with shoes. They also round up. Apparently they do have the option of having their without shoes height as their listed one, but evidently few exercise it. Sometimes even more (in addition to the in shoes + round up) is added to a player's height.

I saw the Kung fu episode , at times he looked a lot shorter than 5 10 ,
next to D. Carradine he looked 5 7 , there`s a shot almost naked, shooting his entire body, his head was very big for his body ( which means he is not tall )
he was very skinny then, different eyebrows and slightly different nose.
In Miami Vice they cared a lot about it, but I recently saw an episode from season 4 ´Missing Hours` , he stands next to Eduard James Olmos, almost eye to eye ( u barely find this angle throughout the vice ) and we all know EduardJO is not tall at all.
