There is no doubt in my mind that Sharapova is easily between 6'2" & 6'3". The weight they have mentioned for her tho is ridiculous, no way is she just 130lbs as mentioned. Just take a look at her now in some pics leading upto the french Open, she has put on some muscle on those broad shoulders and her legs too look strong and sexy. She must be in the region of 160-170 now

i dunno i really think she's 6'2. i also think she doesn't like being her height and tends to slouch a hell of a lot, which is too bad cause her height is a major advantage. When you find pictures of her next to serena williams she usually stands up straight and you see that she is a solid 4 inches taller.

Yea me, and my dad were having this conversation just a few minutes ago. While watching Rafael Nadal recive the award for winning at Hamburg. We saw him standing next to Federer who is 6'1 and he commented how Rafael Nadal grew 3 inches since he was 18 to 21 (from 5'10 to 6'1) and as well he commented as when Maria Sharapova was 18 she was 5'7 and now she is 6'2....
Personally through out school teachers have been telling me that you grow more rapidly from 13 to 20 or 21, and i agree to that... but my dads arguement is they are either taking growth hormones or some shots to enhance height (not steriods)...

In my opinion, Maria Sharapova is at best, 6'. In a picture with James Blake, Andy Roddick, and another female player, Maria Sharapova appears to be at least half an inch shorter than James Blake. (Click Here)
According to the ATP James Blake is listed at 6'1" and Andy Roddick as 6'2". Yet, James Blake appears to be at least 2 inches shorter than Andy Roddick. As a result, the ATP recorded heights are not in equilibrium with one another.
Fortunately, we are able to introduce a calibrating height, Terrell Owens. With a verifiable NFL Combine height of 6'2 3/4", Terrell Owens is at least 2 inches taller than Andy Roddick(picture on Click Here).
So on balance, I believe that Andy Roddick is not the 6'2" he is listed by the ATP but but more like 6' 3/4". Consequently, making James Blake more like 5' 11" and Maria Sharapova anywhere from 5'11" to 6'.

Where she had a major growth spurt at 14, i had it at 15 and just kept on going up!
The difference is, i ate and still eat only foods with 100% vitamin C. Like, i won't eat anything that doesn't have 100% vitamin c. That stuff makes you grow tall!

Sharapova isnt the only tennis playing Russian 6 footer around. Take a look at Dinara Safina who just won the German Open who also happens to be Marat Safin's younger sister. She is listed at 6 ft and 154lbs and looks to be atleast 6'1" and 180 lbs.

i saw a picture of her recently, her features had become much more masculine, there is even a "beard shade" on her face, for me there is no doubt she has taken hormones, the only doubt is wether she starting taking them before or after her age majority or if it she even knew about it.

I'm pretty sure Dave is still over 6' (I think he's gotten shorter) nobody actually see's him on the street he has a secret tunnel to a parking garage.
He doesnt hang out with the stagehands, stays in his office stinking up the room with cigars.
I cant say for sure on the height, keep in mind the ultra wide lenses on those cameras can rally fool ya.
The hard studio cameras themselves never capture below 7 feet, the monitors are above eye level at the rear BOTTOM the camera. You look "up" into them and the capture lens is actually higher.
Daves stage at the desk area is barly 7 steps deep it looks huge on TV.
Count Daves entry steps at the beginning of the show.

I don't find it unnatural that a 6'2" woman has a 5'6" mother and a 5'10" father. I spoke to a woman several years ago who was 6'2 and a half and took a size 10 shoe (UK). She said her father was 5'9" and her mother 5'4". She was average to well-built and in proportion. I spoke to a woman in 1999 who was 6'6". She had a 5'11" father and a 5'7" mother, and her younger sister was 5'4". Perhaps Maria, as with these other two women, could have been throw-backs to some tall ancestor they had.

To address Alex's comment... a friend of mine had parents - Dad 5'6, Mom 5'4 (both on the stocky/plump side). They were wealthy and kept him busy with tennis and other sports. They also fed him close to 20 vitamins at each meal (which I thought was excessive). He ended up to be 6'2. So, I think if you feed 'em well and keep 'em exercised, they will definitely end up at their peak potential height.

Anonymous, I counted Wade as 6'3.75" barefoot. I was also generous on her heels and gave it the absolute minimum. You can clearly see he is still an inch taller than her if he stand straight. Well, they also say that Hewitt is 5'11 and Roddick is 6'3, but they aren't even close to those heights. I mean Roddick was struggling with 6'4 Safin and 6'1 Henman. Some players however are accurately described such as Djokovic, who really is legit 6'2."

Well, they also say that Hewitt is 5'11 and Roddick is 6'3, but they aren't even close to those heights. I mean Roddick was struggling with 6'4 Safin and 6'1 Henman. Some players however are accurately described such as Djokovic, who really is legit 6'2."

I read the previous comments about maria's growth and i've seen other's about kevin costner, matthew lewis wesley snipes and dennis rodman, And remained very suprised because they had a late growth , so i had asked my father the age that he stopped growing and to my surprise he said that he grew several centimetres between 19 and 20.5 years.

As a general note Ive also found they dont always get it wrong in tennis. It seems that anyone actually 6'3 or over, they give the true height.. its like theres no point exaggerating at that point. Also some others were listed right...like Agassi, Djokovic is correct ( i acutally think he could be taller than the 187!) So clearly its not like I WANT them to be short or anything. I am a fan after all. I am strictly going by my own observations and the evidence at hand.

Above average in my books would be somewhere around 5'10, anything above that is tall for me. A legit 6 footer is definitely very tall and not short at all, so you shouldn't consider yourself just above average.

The funny thing is, you guys throw around numbers like they are nothing. Im dont claim to be tall, even though im above average...but a legit 183 is actually regarded as tall ish. What is fany is that most girl that are in the top 10 in tennis are almost as tall as there male counterparts, on average. Doink-- maria had the money to used HG because at age 13 she won a 1 million $ in a junior tournament or something like that, I cant remember well, but she had the money. And you can grow way more than 2-3 inches, it relative to each person.

Many ppl already know Coco Vandeweghe(6-1) coz she's American. But mark names like Jocelyn Rae(also 6-1) of Britain and Rebecca Marino (over 6-2) of Canada. Im pretty sure there many more up and coming tall players out there.

i saw roddick walk by after practice at the cincinnati open. I am 6'0 and was wearing tennis shoes. He was at least an inch or more taller. I would put him very close to 6'2". federer seemed to me about the same height, if not a cm shorter. Hewitt was a shocker, he must not have been more than 5'9.

The guy doing the radio commentary on Maria's match tonight said that he thought Maria was 6'3 now and that they downgrade the womens heights and upgrade the mens.
That is the first time I've heard of that in tennis, I though official heights were pretty accurate.

I met her yesterday when she was leaving the practice courts. I was wearing heels that made me maybe 5'10" barefoot and she was obviously wearing tennis shoes which gave her about an inch extra height. She seemed to me maybe 4-5 inches taller than me. I couldn't get close enough to her to tell but she seemed in the 6'1"-6'2" range so yes pretty tall.

6'1 is probably the ideal height you can have in the US.. In Europe you need 2 or 3 extra inches.. So I'd say 185 - 190

180cm? In some European countries thats just the average height range. I recon it's more necessary to be 190cm to be tall but not too tall universally.

Btw the guy who's dating Sharapova (hypothetically) would have to be at least 6'4" - 6'5" so that she wouldn't make him look shorter in her heels!

Hey xXx i totally agree with you that when you say to someone they are tall its like saying they are pretty. But then again there is still a happy medium. From a guys point of view being called tall is something that is great but there is such thing as being too tall. I saw a guy out who i spoke to who was from New York and he was 203cm tall (6' 8") and when i asked him at 1st he said 6' 3" - 6' 4" then when i said to him no way you are at least 5-6 inches taller than me at 187cm (roughly 6' 2"). Then he slowly went up to 6' 6" and i was like more like 6' 8" and he came out with actually im 203cm. I see KT, nice encounter, but when you say 'HUGE' regarding Sharapova you mean 6'2" spot on or more like 6'3" and above? Quite a few accouncers now days are reffering to her as 6'3" rather than 6'2", I still believe she's in the 6'1"+ zone, doubt she grow more since then.
On a lighter note I gotta agree with you buddy, she used to be 'all cute' up until she was about 17-18, then she started to look more manly muscular, a bit of a turn off for me.

Adam I was 1.85m at 15 and 1.87m at 16... it wasn't until I was 19~20 that I reached a full 188cm, it was a slow and long process, I think you might have hope to be a legit 6'2".

I use the door and standing on a wooden floor. I have a T-square and stand at the edge of the door. The T-square then comes down perfectly square on my full head. Then I measure using a steel measuring tape. I also don't think you should use your morning height as your height. I use the height I am when I come home from work and lie on the sofa for about 15 mins to let the spine stretch out for a while. I think that's a pretty accurate measurement of your height. These people that give their height in shoes + morning height....wtf ??

Adam, best way probably to get your height is have someone take a tape measure and mark you against the wall. Some people also go by the front of the top of their head while you have to go by the tip of the top of the head. Even those stadiometers can be off a bit sometimes at the doctor's office.

A couple times the machine was so off it wasn't even funny. I've gotten as low as 5'7 and 5'3 on that machine.

Adam, the machine says I'm 6'0-6'0.5 in sneakers thats my barefoot height. I'm minimum 6'1-6'1.25 in sneakers, depending on sneakers and time of the day. I could get up to a little over 6'2 if I put on Nike Shox right out of bed.

I tried the same machine again the other day and it gave me 186cm in trainers? Now i am 187cm barefoot when i have been measured and sometimes 188cm. Im defo over 188cm when i 1st wke then for most of the day im 187-188 then im 186-187 in the evening

Arjun, they're off normally 1-2 inches either way but mostly it'll say you're shorter than you really are.
I'm overweight at 195lbs at 6'0.5 but I'm in good shape. Those ideal weights are made for the people with normal body types.

Those machines are crap .... I've had one tell me I was 5'7" in converse, when I'm pretty much 5'8" barefoot for most of the day. It also calculated BMI, and although it downgraded my height, it got the weight right, so I was right in the "ideal" range, lol. I'm just 135 lbs by the way, quite skinny.

I think you need to go on those machines with shoes on becasue i got weighed and measured at my doctors 15mins before testing one of these machines and with shoes on the machine gave me the exact same findings in height and weight. Those machines are useless i my opinion. Best do it yourself. Im 20 nearly 21 does anyone think i can grown about an inch still?
