Massimo, Rodman is just doing what Barkley did. He claims a height shorter than his actual height to make his rebounding accomplishments at the PF look more impressive. Rodman is really about 6'7".
Massimo said on 12/Aug/08
I heard that Rodman himself said he is only 6'6" barefoot.

Shaq is not 7'! He said it his self he was only 6'11 1/2! End of discussion!

He was joking. Patrick Ewing claimed he was 6'9" instead of his listed 7'0" in Sports Illustrated, do you believe that too?

Shaq has claimed 7'1" FIVE TIMES. I can find a link to each of those times. Nobody has a link to this 6'11 1/2" claim either. I also have a link to Shaq's 1992 pre-draft measurement of 7'1" WITHOUT SHOES. I also have a video of Shaq at 17 where he says that he's NOT 6'11" but 7 foot even. So even Shaq as a teenager was taller than 6'11 1/2". Come on you can do better than that willy79(atleast for your sake I hope you can).
Shaq said on 12/Aug/08
willy79, if that were the case then he would have Banned me. He waited to upgrade him to 7'1" until I posted a well respected site which stated he was 7'1" without shoes. You also didn't draw a line in the picture like I requested. Here's the pic without the line again. Click Here

If you're so sure my line wasn't accurate then by all means draw an "accurate" one. Shaq does get a 0.5" advantage from shoes and maybe a little more of an advantage from being a little closer to the camera so if they took off their shoes I could see them the same height.
Shaq said on 11/Aug/08
JJ I'd say Rodman is probably about 6'7" barefoot. 6'6" is too low but 6'8" is too high. Compare him to 6'7 1/2" Scottie Pippen and 6'4 7/8" Michael Jordan. Rodman is a little shorter than Pippen and atleast 2 inches taller than Jordan. Click Here

Rodman also never looked that much shorter than 6'8" Karl Malone when they played against eachother. Basketballreference also has Rodman at 6-7 and they use players initial listings coming out of college. Click Here

Here is Rodman and Big Show(6'11.5"-7'0")

6'7" seems right.

Joe the Olympics have Kobe at 6'6", 205 lbs which are his NBA listings.

Alex2 as far as Kobe being 6'4.5" well it's possible but usually he looks 6'4.75" to me. As far as Shaq being 7'0.75" well of course that's possible too. I'm sure a pre-draft measurement could have been off by 1/4 of an inch because that is such a small difference but I haven't seen enough to make me believe Shaq isn't a full 7'1".

By the way Shaq was measured 7'1" at the 1992 pre-draft camp. I've provided links to that which is why Rob upgraded him to 7'1". Even prior to that when Shaq was listed here as 7'0" Rob thought I'd provided enough picture evidence alone that he upgraded Shaq to 7'0.5".

Willy what's the number at the end of your screename for? Your IQ?

After looking at the Nowitzki picture a little more I'd say that could be 2 inches. Shaq is look down slightly and compare their eye level. Shaq doesn't have a small forehead either.

Dirk is 6'11"-6'11.5" and Shaq is obviously 7'1". I don't buy 7'0" for Dirk though. He's listed at 2.14 M by the Olympics surprisingly.

You say Isu alum shouldn't be taken serious but your bs Dave Meltzer style proof everyone should hold with a grain of salt. The fact that you can not see that in the Wilt and Shaq pic, Wilt is taller!!!!!!!!1 LOL!~

Shaq, from your pics, Kobe looks 6'4.5" tops, and if he said hes 6'4" then likely he could be? As for Shaq, maybe 7'0.75" would be most accurate?

That's only a 4 or 5 cm difference. That backs up Dirk at 6'11.5". I emailed Nowitzki's official site and asked how tall he was barefoot and they replied 2.13 M but I suspect they are just repeating his listed height. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has claimed Dirk is 7'0" barefoot and 7'1 1/2" in shoes but I don't believe that either.

Dirk is probably 6'11.5" barefoot and 7'1" in shoes.

Hahah back for more embarrassment lsu alum?

Lets review.

1.You stated to have been at LSU at the same time as Shaq yet you have always claimed to have trained with several wrestlers during the early 80's. Hmmm that would make you in your early teens at the oldest when you were training with those wrestlers?

2.You also have claimed to have witnessed Shaq getting measured and at first claimed that it was at the pre-draft camp. You later changed your story to it being a measurement from his last season at LSU.

Draft Express is a well respected site. It's a very valid link.

What links have you posted to back up your claims? NONE.

I think 6'4" is more likely than 6'4" 3/4. Come on, he is only a few atoms taller than Dwyane Wade and slightly shorter than Michael Jordan.
MJ looked a little taller than Italiano soccer player Marco Materazzi, who is listed as 1.93.
My best guess is:
MJ: 1.95
KB: 1.93
DW: 1.92

Regarding Muresan, he is certainly one of the 4 tallest players in NBA history, he is at least 7'5". But I'm surprised that there isn't any clear picture of him next to other 7 footers. Didn't he play in the same era as Manute Bol ? The only clear picture of him I have seen so far is the one with Bradley and, even taking into account that Shawn was standing as straight as possible and Gheorghe not...I just fail to see Muresan taller than Bradley.
He looked pretty close in height to Sun Ming Ming though. Gheorghe is somewhere between 7'5" and 7'7". Where exactly, I'm not sure.
Also, I know that he was definitely a good player and I'm surprised that there isn't much about him on You Tube. Not even a complete quarter of a game.

Sounds right Massimo. Duncan seems about 6'10.5"/6'10.75" and that makes sense for his current 6'11" listing and it makes him about 7'0" in shoes which is why he was listed that height for his first 8 seasons.

Duncan with 6'4 3/4" Kobe and 6'11"-6'11.5" Dirk.

Duncan looks about the same height as Dirk and atleast 6 inches taller than Kobe.

In this picture shaq's got advantage coz is one step close to the camera than Wilt.

Shaq's head is huge and bigger than Wilt's head, but Wilt has got eye and shoulder level higher than Shaq's, Wilt surely play taller and maybe he's got longer arms than Super Shaq!
Yeah Wilt Chamberlain has a small head for his big body just like Dwight Howard. Wilt would be 7,2 (rather than only 7,1") if he had a head that was proportioned to his body.

I think Bargnani is a shade under 6'10", he is shorter than Chris Bosh.
To me Muresan can't be over 2.28 and Duncan can't be over 2.08.
T- Mac is 1.99 or maybe even 1.98, he ain't that much taller than Bryant.
And so on for some of the others.

Changing subject more a moment, how tall do you think Duncan is ? I was watching some pictures on gettyimages and he looks to me only 3 cm max taller than 6'8" Robert Horry. He also doesn't look that much taller than LeBron James. But he looks taller next to other guys like Carlos Boozer, Tracy Mc Grady and he looks only about 1 or 1 and a half inches shorter than KG. It's quite confusing. My overall impression is that he is 6'10" max, but he might be a little shorter than that. I think it's quite unlikely that he is anything over 6'10". It's also weird that he was listed at 8' feet for most of his career.

You can see in the second picture that Shaq's head makes him about half an inch or an inch taller. I don't know how about Wilt had shrunk from his peak height of 7'1 1/16" or how much of a footwear advantage Shaq had but regardless Shaq was clearly taller in those pictures.

The interesting thing is that Shaq's shoulder level and even eye level are lower than Wilt's. He gains the height advantage because of his much bigger forehead.
Massimo said on 29/Jul/08
If you look in gettyimages under "Hakeem Olajuwon" there is a very clear picture at page 11 with Shaq, Payton and Olajuwon where Shaq looks WAY taller than Hakeem. There is such a difference between the two of them that it might make you doubt that "The Dream" is a legittimate 6'10". But there is also another picture where Olajuwon looks a couple of inches taller than Robert Horry. And Horry was measured at 6'8" when he was drafted and listed at 6'10" his entire career. The only pictures where Shaq doesn't look as tall as I would expect are the ones with Jabbar and Chamberlain. But, however, anything below 7' is extremely unlikely for Shaq and there is a good chance he is a full 7'1" barefoot.
Salva11 said on 29/Jul/08

In the first picture Shaq has about 3-4 inches on Hakeem, in the second picture he has about 3 inches on Hakeem, in the 3rd picture he has about 2 inches on Hakeem and in the 4th picture he has about 5 inches on Hakeem. So on average he has just over 3 inches on Hakeem.

So Shaq at 7'1" and Hakeem at 6'10" makes sense.

Kenny, Shaq's pre-draft measurement showed his weight at 303 pounds. He weighed in at 332 prior to the 1995-1996 season, he weighed 340 prior to the 1999-2000 season, I've read he was even weighed at 382 prior to the 2002 playoffs. In recent years he's slimmed down a bit again. He weighed 327 prior to his first season with Miami, 345 the next season and he was weighed at 321 at his physical after the trade to Phoenix.
Kenny said on 27/Jul/08
Yeah, Shaq's got a huge head...I think his hats (like his shoes) have to be custom made! BTW, how much did Shaq weigh before the NBA? I think only 280lbs but that's still huge. Now he weighs around 320lbs at least...
Shaq said on 27/Jul/08
You do realize that the doors in basketball arenas are bigger than the standard 6'8" doors. I'd assume the doors in Shaq's house were built to be over 7 feet as well so he doesn't have to duck when he walks through doors in his own house.

I'll use "scientific" measurements with this picture of Shaq and 6'3.75" Dwyane Wade

Using Rob's suggestions on how to measure a celebrities height, Shaq comes out 9 inches taller assuming he has the head of an average 6 ft man. That puts Shaq at 7'0.75" making the 7'1" measurement very likely. Of course it's also very likely thta Shaq's head is slightly bigger than an average 6 ft man. If you copy and paste Shaq's head next to Wade's you can see O'Neal's head is about 2 inches bigger.

As a result Shaq comes out more like 7'1.5" or 7'1.75" in that picture. 7'0.75" at the worst.

I also disagree with the statement that Nowitzki doesn't make his teammates better. During the 2004-2005 season Dirk had an average supporting cast but won 58 games in the difficult Western Conference. That is even more impressive when you consider that Michael Finley missed 18 games, Jerry Stackhouse missed 26 games, Erick Dampier missed 23 games and Keith Van Horn missed 53 games. I think Dirk was a top five player for a 3 year stretch and I wouldn't be surprised if he elevates his game back to that level next season.

you can say petrovic or sabonis hade more talent individually, and probably you right... but basketball is team game, you can do 40 points per game, but if you team don't win you aren't good at all.... so, in my opinion kukoc was a factor in the second three-peat of the bulls, nowitzky get the mvp and he transformed the team of dallas from 10 w 70 l to 60 to 20 understand? Sabonis is overated, he's a good but not a monster like someone told here, petrovic was a champion, but i would remember that danilovic can be considered at the same level, and nobody mentioned here

lsu alum, Garnett reported to training camp at 253 prior to the 2005-2006 season. If you think he's still 220 then you're crazy. He's skinny but the man is 7 feet tall and does have some muscle. Garnett was listed 253 by the NBA a few years ago. He's around that weight. Look at the difference between Garnett in his rookie season when he was in the 215-220 range and now. Garnett was already reported as over 240 pounds in 2002.

Gonzalo, I think Odom is in the perfect role for himself. While he is about 6'9"/6'10" and can rebound he's really not a PF. He likes to handle the ball, run the offense, makes plays for teammates ect. and now he'll probably be the Lakers 4th option. Odom does not perform well under pressure. The only 2 times he's done well in a second option role was in 2005-2006 when he played mostly SF or 2003-2004 when he was Miami's best player. He is probably more of a small forward who can run the offense as a "point forward". He'll also have a big advantage in the post against other small forwards.

As far as Ron Artest. I agree he's not worth the risk, he'll ruin the teams chemistry. The Lakers got the Finals last year without Bynum so why risk screwing up a great team? Artest might work out but there's a very good chance adding him wouldn't work out. On the other hand a starting lineup of Fisher-Kobe-Odom-Gasol-Bynum will be the favorites to win the West and probably the title.

Gonzalo it should be interesting to see Gasol and Bynum play together. A true twin towers lineup since both players are legit 7 footers and Bynum is a natural center while Gasol also plays a lot of center. I am a big fan of European big men in general because they are usually versatile. Most of them have an excellent shooting touch, great passing skills, solid fundamentals and strong footwork.

I'm not sure Gasol was ever going to lead a team deep into the playoffs as the best player but the trade to the Lakers makes it so he doesn't have to. He isn't asked to be the teams leading scorer or leading rebounder plus with Bynum he won't have to stay in the low post or play center all the time. He can just play to his strengths and do a bit of everything. Plus if he returns to PF he'll have a size advantage over every player. The only power forwards around his size are Kevin Garnett(6'11 3/4", 253) and Dirk Nowitzki(Probably 6'11 1/2" and 260).

You're right about Petrovic. I watched him when he was a Net and he was improving every season. It's a shame he was buried on the bench in Portland but he really started to shine in New Jersey. He had 2 straight 20 ppg seasons prior to his tragic death and he was one of the greatest shooters I've ever seen.

I'm also a big Dirk Nowitzki fan as far as European players.

Also where the hell did you hear Shaq refuses to be measured? That's ridiculous, the only documented measurement for O'Neal is 7'1" so unless you have any documented measurement then you should just stop posting.

As far as Olajuwon well I've always thought he was closer to 6'10" but if he's off by an inch with his height then that would put O'Neal back at 7'1". I doubt Hakeem would be off more than 2 inches with his estimate of Shaq's height. I've seen about 3-4 pictures of Shaq and Hakeem and O'Neal has 3 or more inches on Hakeem in all of them. Those pictures are also before Shaq started wearing those huge shoes he's worn since his toe problems in 2002.

He was also the key addition that made the Lakers the best team in the West. He is one of the best big men in the NBA IMO. He is one of the elite low post scorers, he has a good jumper, he's probably the best passing big man, a solid rebounder and a strong shot blocker.

lsu alum, I can count on one hand how many people think Shaq is under 7 feet. JT posted a picture of Shaq standing up straight next to Hogan and Shaq towered over him.

Less people are questioning Shaq's height now then 1 1/2-2 years ago. Shaq is 7 foot 1. 6'11.5" for Shaq is a joke. I'll bet you I can find more pictures where Shaq looks around 7'1" than you can where he looks around 6'11.5". I've only seen maybe 2 pictures where Shaq was standing up straight and looked under 7 feet, otherwise he always looks 7'1"-7'2" with an ocassional picture where he looks 7'0" flat.

Hakeem Olajuwon who is 6'10"-6'11" trained against Shaq 1 on 1 in a gym in 1992 and estimated him at 7'2". His teammate John Salley estimated Shaq at 7'1" and Salley is around 6'11".

Shaq always has 4 inches on 6'9.25" Amare Stoudemire, 3-4 inches on 6'10" Tim Duncan, 4 inches on 6'9.5" Alonzo Mourning ect. He dwarfs 6'8"/6'9" guys. A 6'11.5" guy couldn't do that. Your arguments get more and more pathetic.

At first you were claiming the 6'11.5" height came from the pre-draft camp and that you were there.

Now you claim it came from Shaq's last season at LSU

Neither is accurate otherwise you'd be able to provide a link.

In reality you heard Shaq joking, saying he was 6'11.5", believed it, argued it here, got proven wrong and now you can't go back on what you've said.

I honestly doubt you even believe Shaq is 6'11.5" anymore, you just can't backtrack on what you've said.

The 6'11.5" height does NOT come from a measurement in the early 90's, it comes from Shaq's appearance on the Howard Stern show about 6-7 years ago.

Shaq was measured 7'1" at the 1992 pre-draft camp, he's claimed that height 3 documented times, he usually looks 7'1"-7'2" in pictures and on the court, he's always been listed at 7'1" or 7'2", people who meet him estimate him at 7'1" or 7'2". There is no real debate going on here.

Shaq is 7'1", I'm 100% sure of that and obviously Rob thinks I've provided enough proof because he's upgraded him a full inch.

So keep looking for 1 out of every 100 pictures where Shaq looks under that height but it's not convincing anyone.

I also find it hilarious that you said headshots don't prove anything when I post them but whenever a head shot shows Shaq looking under 7'1" all of sudden you think it's great evidence?

Gonzalo, thanks for the response. If Sabonis played during his prime in the NBA then it'd be tough to imagine him not ending up a hall of famer.

An overweight, injury prone 33 year old Sabonis averaged 16.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and 1.1 bpg on excellent shooting numbers in 1997-1998.

Sabonis was also a key member of those stacked 1999/2000 Blazer teams that made it to te Western Conference Finals. In the late 80's Sabonis also dominated David Robinson in an international game.

Gonzalo, here is a basketball related question. Did you watch Sabonis when he played in Spain in the early 90's? I agree that Walton was once over 7 feet and around 7'1" but now due to all of those injuries and age I believe he is now 6'11". Robert Parish was listed 7'0.5" so if that was accurate then that would make Bill about 7'1" in his playing days.

As far as Garnett next to Russell, well he seems to slouch in most of the pictures and in the recent championship pictures he had to tilt his head down and lean to his side a bit to be in the same picture as Bill who doesn't appear to have shrunk below 6'9.5".

Garnett standing straight next to Russell. Click Here

Garnett is 6'11.75" and I don't know if Walton is still that tall but he was easily taller than that in his playing days. Snapper Jones once said something about Walton being measured 7 foot barefoot in Portland but that may have been later in the day. If it wasn't then Robert Parish sure as hell isn't 7 feet.

It's ironic that of all people Walton called out Garnett about being listed 6'11" instead of 7 feet or 7'1".

If Walton is still over 7 feet though then that makes Shaq closer to 7'2" than 7'1" because he was about 2 inches taller than Walton in 1998.

Shaq said on 2/Jul/08
I don't know, Eaton did look a good 5 inches taller than Walton this year(6'11" now, probably about 7'0.5" peak). Although it's pretty difficult to tell 1/4 of an inch on a 7-4ish man. I think 7-3 3/4 sounds accurate enough.

As for Kareem I found a link a while back saying he grew from 7'1 5/8" to an even 7'2" in 1970.

Another interesting thing on Shaq's height is he didn't change from a size 22 to his bigger healed size 23 shoes until his toe problems in 2002.

Here is a quote about Shaq's size from a December 29th, 2002 Denver Post article.

"Shaq already is listed at 7-foot-1 and 338 pounds, as if he needed heavyweight black platforms that make him 7-3 and 400 pounds."

I'd say prior to 2002 he was closer to 7'2" in shoes but around 2002 or 2003 he started looking about 7'3" in shoes.

LV, I keep hearing 6'10 3/4" for Hakeem but I don't know, he usually looks 6'10". He claims to be 6'11" nine times in his autobiography but a 1994 NY Times article said Hakeem claimed he was closer to 6'10". He can look 6'11" at times but that's probably more like his height in shoes. Anyone know where the 6'10 3/4" height for Hakeem comes from?

Sampson is somewhere around 7'1.5" to 7'2".

Very ridicolous Ralph Sampson in the only tall person that he claims more than is real height!!! One of my best friends, claims he is 193-195 cm tall (6,4"-6,5"), but he is minimun 197-199 with freakishly long arms i think he plays like a 6,9" 6,10" player, with a Standing Reach of 270cm or more minumum (about 8,10.5" or 9 feet). I don't know why a lot of very tall guys claim less height than they really are, Charles Brakley or Kobe Bryant for example...

Eaton's exact height is 7-3 3/4 in his bare feet....

I remember Eaton being noticeably taller than Kareem, who I'm pretty sure was no less than 7'2" in his prime (he's still taller than Shaq and Andrew Bynum at around age 60). Maybe that Eaton figure was an end of the day measurement??

Eaton's exact height is 7-3 3/4 in his bare feet.

This is from the Dallas Morning News(may 24th, 1984)

Sampson is listed at 7-4, but refuses to be measured. Utah center Mark Eaton, who has been measured in his bare feet at 7-3 3/4, claims he is at least two inches taller than Sampson. "I asked the Houston trainer about that,' said Eaton. "He shrugged and said, "If he wants to be 7-4, then he's 7-4. After all, he is Ralph Sampson.' '

I never really thought much about Sampson's height, but he DOES NOT look 7'4" (Click Here). Hakeem (Akeem back then) is only about 6'10" barefoot and Sampson isn't significantly taller.

Probably just a milder case. Even Shawn Bradley had acromegaly - he had surgery for it, and looks far from the stereotypical acromegalic giant. Well, apart from his height...

I'd didn't think Bradley had acromegaly either.

i know a lot of huge basketball players suffer/suffered from acromelgy. take unca's 7,7-7,8" Kenny George for instance. that guy can literally touch the rim while standing completely flatfooted (unlike Slavko where the evidence as you mentioned was questionable)and there is 100% evidence for that (just watch him on youtube) and has an insane 8,5 1/2 wingspan. kenny george dunks literally without jumping at all! but he is suspected to have acromelgy because both his parent's while they are tall are nowhere near kenny's height. And also kenny george seems to have an 'unusually' deep voice (a key characteristic of acromelgic individuals). but then again, he could just be a case of an overactive pituitary gland (if that is classified as acromelgy).

The rims in that picture is questionable and may be bent downward.

Salva11, I'm very impressed with your knowledge on giants and their relation to basketball. I'm a very big NBA fan and I had no idea Mark Eaton was an acromegalic giant. I knew Muresan was because I had tickets to a game his rookie year and he wasn't there because he was have his tumor operated on. Ming, Smits, and Sabonis all came from tall families.
Aram x said on 29/Jun/08
btw, what's interesting to note is that not all acromelgic giants look like orces (i.e. having unusually rugged facial features and uneven physical growth). for example, jaber rouzbahani's looks evenly proportioned and'normal' (just unusally tall of course) and he didn't have the neanderthal/orce-like look like Andre the Giant or Matt McGrogory (who both had obvious physical deformities).
Aram x said on 29/Jun/08
true being acromegalic giant doesn't make you a bad player, it just makes it harder to be a better player physically wise (like you more joint problems than non-acromeglaic giants). BTW, i thought Mark Eaton was not acrogemalic.
Salva11 said on 29/Jun/08
i don't think what is Vranes wingspan but not 8 feet even...i think...he "played" for Knicks and Blazers in NBA and now he "plays" for Partizan Beograd, a very poor player, Podkolzine for example is 100 times better than him, and Vranes is a normal growth giant, not acromegalic like Podkolzine, Muresan, Mark Eaton...ecc...

Often i heard that normal growth giants are a better player than acromegalic giants, but except Yao Ming, Rik Smits and Arvydas Sabonis , the best big giant (over 220) were acromegalics, Mark Eaton, Gheorghe Muresan, Vladimir Tkachenko (played in Europe, he was the physically strongest player ever before Shaq).

Manute Bol, Shawn Bradley, Chuck Nevitt (all normal growth giant) were a very poor player, no strong, no basket movement, totally no skills, except Bol who was a terrific shoot blocker.

Slavko Vranes (226-228), Neil Fingleton (228-232?), Jerry Sokoloski (225), Remon Van Der Hare (221) who are normal growth giant too are all freaks of nature and they can't play baskeball!

For example Jaber Rouzbahani (226), former Barcelona star Roberto Duenas (221 cm, 141 kg), Podkolzine (224) and Peter John Ramos (221) are a quite good player and thay are acromegalics giants.

Did you see the pictures of Barkley with Kenny Smith when they were in their barefeet? Click Here Click Here

As you can see Chuck has 4-5 inches on Smith and considering Smith was listed 6-3 he probably wasn't below 6-1.5

JT has been over this a million times. I haven't looked for the Hulk hogan picture, nor do I care much. If you want to post it here then go ahead but I've already proven Shaq is 7'1" which is why he is listed as such on this site.

What do you all think Roy Hibbert's measurements are?

I'd say about 7-0 or 7-1 w/o shoes, 270-275 pounds but his claimed 7-4 wingspan from 2007 sounds too low.
Remember wingspan measures shoulder breadth too, i have a friend who's actually a slightly shorter than me in head height and he's got a shorter wingspan too, but when he reached up, he measured slightly better than me
(that's because i've got broader shoulders than him and his head is very small--mine rather large).
Aram X said on 27/Jun/08
actually, just looked at a few picutres of muresan on google and of him standing under the rim i am pretty sure now he can touch the rim flatfooted with one hand but i seriously doubt he can dunk flatfooted. muresan should actually have a higher Standing Reach than ming ming (who i don't think can touch the rim flatfooted despite being 7,8"-7,9" which means he's got very short arms for his height). ming ming's probably got a short wingspan than his own height just like yao.
Shaq said on 27/Jun/08
Aram x, I don't what his Standing Reach was but if he is 7'1"-7'2" w/ shoes and had a 7'4" wingspan then I'd assume worst case his Standing Reach is 9'4".
Aram x said on 27/Jun/08
Gheorghe Muresan got a 7,10" wingspan (yao's got a 7,5" wingspan). Assuming that Muresan's shoulders are the same width as yao's but not narrower than yao's(which is unlikely because yao's already got extremely narrow shoulders for his body) he would have 5 extra inches of arm length (but since humans obviously have 2 arms that would be 2.5 inches of extra length per arm). Muresan is also about two inches taller than yao and i guess it's safe to assume his shoulders are probably about 2-2.5 inches higher than Yao's. and since yao's got a 9,7-9,8" (or 115-116inch let's just avg it to 115.5 for convience's sake) flatfoot reach (w/ shoes on though) let's to the simple math
111.5 +2.5 (from arm length)+2.5 or 2.0 from shoulder height= 10 feet flatfoot reach (give or take 1/2 inch higher or lower than 10 ft). So i guess muresan could touch the rim flatfooted (but just barely at best). but to dunk one handed he would still have to go his toes that's for sure (no flatfooted dunking from muresan lol). kenny george i think he could actually dunk flatfooted (or very close to) because he's got at least 3 extra inches of arm length over muresan (since he's got a 101 1/2 inch wingspan compared to Muresan's 94 inch). i seen kenny dunking (what it seems like) standing flatfooted lol on youtube....
Aram x said on 27/Jun/08
7,4" wingspan is a decent wingspan for his height and 270lbs sounds pretty big...what's his Standing Reach? i am guessing around 9,5"-9,6" right?
(w/ shoes on obviously). i don't think he can dunk without jumping...but that's not that important if he is fast and strong enough to play center that's all that matters. from the looks of pictures of the guy i think his wingspan looks to closer to 7,6" btw.
Aram x said on 27/Jun/08
btw, where's the proof that slavko vranes can touch the rim flatfooted, Salva11? just wondering not saying that you are lying i just want the proof.
Aram x said on 27/Jun/08
btw, you should keep in mine that sun ming ming is about an inch or an inch a half taller than muresan so his shoulders are almost certainly higher up than muresan's (SMM doen't appear to have a ridiculous long neck or tall head) so even if he's got shorter arms than muresan he still has shoulder height advantage over muresan. and muresan's arms, judging from pictures i've seen, aren't crazy long either...but i guess muresan's Standing Reach could be 10 feet flat but not any higher. btw, you believe me that a 7,2"-7,3" guy (shagari alleyne) could have the same Standing Reach as a 7,5"-7,6" (yao). technically, in basketball terms, yao would have no real 'height' advantage over Alleyne (except maybe his eye level being higher allowing him to see further and extra height obstruct the opponent's vision) and plus Alleyne's got considerably longer arms than yao (wingspan 8,1"). btw, every coach who seen this alleyne guy almost always mention about his 'freakishly long arms' or 'pterodactyl wingspan'.
Aram x said on 27/Jun/08
actually pavel podkolzine's Standing Reach has been measured at 9,8" not 9,9" according to the 2003 NBA draft (which is by no means unimpressive). However i do think he's about an inch shorter than yao in head height but with 1 inch plus in Standing Reach. keep in mine muresan's wingspan is 'only' 3 inches greater than his barefoot of 7,7" but it's also worth noting that people of the same height vary in shoulder height too which also affects Standing Reach not just arm length. also wingspan measures shoulder breadth and Muresan does not appear to have very broad shoulders so his arms must be pretty long (although not freakishly so) and his head and neck don't seem very long either so i suppose he could touch the rim flatfooted. but yeah, the iranian guy, who's the same height as yao, to have a Standing Reach that's at least 4 inches higher than yao; that's ridiculous even with a 8 foot wingspan! i even find it hard to believe even from seeing pictures of the grabbing the rim flatfooted that he is actually capable of doing that at only 7,5" with a 8 foot wingspan. but then again, rouzbahani does appear to have an almost comically small head for his height and not very neck either so his shoulders must be very high up so i guess it would be possible for him to touch the rim flatfooted at only 7,5". btw, i think that 7,5" is his height in shoes so he's really only 7,4" barefoot! whoa. that's a freakish Standing Reach...

226 or 228 (7,5" or 7,6") cm serbian Slavko Vranes (very poor player and a normal growth giant) can touch the rim very easy completly flat footed, i think Muresan who's taller and maybe has got longer arms can grab the rim very well and dunk flat footed easily, Iranian big guy Jaber Rouzbahani who is 7,5" (226) with an 8 foot wingspan (244 cm) has a Standing Reach of 10,1"...also the huge muscular Pavel Podkolzine has a 9,9" reach (the guy is 225 flat footed and 228-9 wingspan)
Salva11 said on 27/Jun/08

believe me, his wingspan is certainly longer than 93 inches. if his wingspan was only 93 inches even at his height he wouldn't be able dunk so easily without jumping...his wingspan is around 8,5-8,6".
Aram X said on 26/Jun/08
Salva 11 Quote why he said 93 inches wingspan?
well, it says on other sources his wingspan to be 101 or 101.5 inches and those sources seem more realistic considering how long kenny george's arms are. his wingspan is very very long (and not just a measely 93 inches)...combined with his immense size...which is why he can get avg of 5 blocks per game.
Anonymous said on 26/Jun/08
yeh, a 9,10" Standing Reach at 7,8-7,9" does seem rather short...but that's still higher than pretty much anybody else (except for maybe kenny george). are you sure that Standing Reach is measured with shoes on or with out (because Standing Reach is now listed with shoes on)? because 9,10" just seems a little bit to short....besides were did you get the 9,10" Standing Reach stat from?
Anonymous said on 26/Jun/08
Muresan DOES NOT HAVE MONKEY ARMS...his wingspan is only three inches longer than his height, but that Shagari Alleyne guy got a freaking 8,1" at only 7,2" (his Standing Reach is par with Yao's despite being three inches shorter in head height). Manute Bol, at the same height as Muresan, i would also label him with the monkey arm label because he's got a crazy 8,6" wingspan for crying out loud! and btw, what's muresan's Standing Reach? i am pretty sure it's like around 9,10-9,11" (yes he might be able to touch the rim standing flatfooted). yes, i think muresan might be able to dunk on his tippy toes although there has been no evidence of that...but that kenny george guy (also 7,7) he can certainly dunk without jumping (but his wingspan is around 8 and a 1/2 feet or 7 inches longer than Muresan's) and yeh, it's pretty much standard protocal for him to dunk without jumping in games.
Salva11 said on 26/Jun/08

Regarding the Muresan-Bradley pictures I have said what my impression was,
I don't pretend to be right. Bradley was standing very straight (if that's correct English) in the pictures with Yao (in Yao's rookie season)too, but I think it's hard to back up the opinion that Yao looked taller than Bradley in those pictures. As for Sun Ming Ming he once said he was 7'8", but maybe he was just rounding down.

Actually if you look closely at Kenny's wingspan during games, 93 inches (or 7,9") is just too low. BTW, his wingspan has actually been measured at somewhere 8,5-8,6" and not a measely 7,9". Kenny's the same height as Muresan but his wingspan is at least a half a foot longer.

In these two pictures Bradley looks taller than Muresan. I really don't understand why they used to list Gheorghe at 7'7' (with 77 written on his shirt). It's not even like Shaq has said he was 6'11" more than once, Barkley really is trying to convince everyone that he;s 6'4" but he's around 6'6".

Massimo that picture with Shawn was from Yao's rookie season or second season.

The Rockets strength and conditioning coach Anthony Falsone says Yao grew to 7-5 3/4 without shoes and 7-7 1/4 with shoes sometime before September 2004 because that's when he measured Yao at that height.

Compare Yao to 7'1.25" Dikembe Mutombo.

a player's true height index matters more than how tall he measures at the top of the head because what can you do with the top of your head in basketball. nothing. a longer wingspan can indicate a better Standing Reach but not necessary. william sheldon for example 6,7" barefoot had a ridiculous 7,4" wingspan but apparently his Standing Reach is only 8,8 1/2" due to his very very tall head and/or long neck (his shoulders were probably at the same height as a player who might only be 6,5 or 6,6).
Anonymous said on 22/Jun/08
btw, yao plays shorter than his listed height of 7,5-7,6". he plays more a size 7,3"=7,4" because his Standing Reach is 'only' 9,7" thanks to his unusually short wingspan for his height. manute bol, on the other hand, played taller than his listed height more like somebody who's nearly 8 feet because he doesn't have a very tall head or long neck and has a ridiculous 8 foot 6 wingspan.

Gasol at 7'0.5" means he is around 7'2" in shoes which seems accurate. He does look taller than that on the court sometimes though. Shaq looks 7'1.5" or 7'1.75" next to 7'2" Zydrunas Ilgauskas too although that may be his footwear advantage although Z may wear big shoes.
Gonzalo said on 20/Jun/08
Gasol was listed 2`15 when he played in Spain. Last summer, while preparing for the Eurobasket the TV commentators said he was measured 2.14`4. Bosh looks around 2`10.
When I saw Gasol live in the Eurobasket final he looked huge, he towered over Kirilenko. He looked as tall as Savrasenko, listed 2`17.

Good find though Allen4, I'd always suspected that Bosh was 6'11" now, that confirms it.

Gasol was measured 214'5 cm which is 7'0.5". While he looks atleast 2 inches taller than Bosh that could be because he's wearing basketball shoes and Bosh isn't.

Gasol does sometimes appear to be a legit 7'1" but 7'0.5" is probably right and Bosh looks like a solid 6'11".
Rocky said on 19/Jun/08
It's clear that Shaq's shoes add more than a 1 inch boost, especially given his foot size and generally speaking, the width and depth of a shoe is proportional to the length. Not to mention that give his weight of over 300+ lbs, there can also be extra padding to absorb contact.
Gonzalo said on 19/Jun/08
Allen4, Gasol looks more than 3cms taller than Bosh in that pic
Shaq said on 17/Jun/08
Steve, Shaq was measured 7'1" without shoes while Divac was measured 6'11.5" at the 1988 Olympics. With Sportscenter covering the whole Lakers vs Kings conspiracy they keep showing a shot of Shaq and Vlade, Shaq looks 2 inches taller in the picture.

Thanks Allen4, I can buy 6'11" for Bosh because he looked taller than 6'10.25" Andrea Bargnani. Bosh looks more than 2 inches shorter than 7'0.5" Pau Gasol though.

I think Shaq is 7'0 or 7'0 1/2 at most. Here is a telling picture of him posing with Marlou Aquino (listed in Philippines as 6'9" but is actually 6'10" )for a jumpball.

Isu Alum u r so boring, stop to claim Shaq i 6-11,5 the wonderful true giant Shaq is 7-1 without shoes and he is 7-3 in shoes, and he weight around 330-365 pound. I think Shaq is the world strongest man!

Kobe here looks at least 6'5" next to the 6'11"-10" bosh. i believe Bosh is a full 6'11" his body looked really undeveloped when he first entered the league at 19.
lsu alum said on 7/Jun/08
thought you would say something like that apparently the only pictures that are any good are the ones you use to prove oneal is taller than he really is.you right about one thing oneals elevator basketball shoes give him more than an inch in height.
Shaq said on 7/Jun/08
lsu alum he clearly has not researched Shaq's height much if he thinks Shaq's shoes only add 1 inch.

As far as the Hulk Hogan picture post it. I know if Shaq doesn't have 8-9 inches on him then he must be bending his knees, Hogan must be closer to the camera or be wearing bigger shoes.

JT has pictures on his photobucket that show Hogan slightly shorter than 6'3.75" Dwyane Wade and here is a great angle picture of Shaq and Wade. Shaq isn't wearing basketball shoes while Wade is.

Explain this picture lsu alum Click Here

No poor posture, no bad angle and no footwear advantage for Shaq.

look at the last pic low on the main screen the one with Abdul-Jabbar and Garnett next to each others I know that it's not a great angle but you can clearly see that there are at least 2" between them!

shaq you still havent explained the hogan picture, and i see another believes hes not 7'1' except in shoes
Shaq said on 6/Jun/08
John Starks was also listed 3 inches above his true height. He was listed 6'5" but admitted to being 6'2". As far as Beasley even he says he'll be more of an NBA small forward. That makes more sense to me because he never seemed like a true big man.

J.L. everyone knows Shaq's shoes add more than 1 inch.
Gonzalo said on 6/Jun/08
Amazing how a player can be upgraded three inches....Using inches and measuring players with shoes on doesn
J.L. said on 6/Jun/08
Shaq is 7'0 barefoot 7'1 in shoes. I have a lifelike poster of Shaq being that height in shoes.
Shaq said on 5/Jun/08
Yeah but I'm even more shocked Beasley was listed at 6-10 but is only 6-7 without shoes and 6-8 1/4 in shoes. I was surprised that Derrick Rose is only 6-1 1/2 too.
Viper said on 5/Jun/08
How about 6-9 listed James Mays measuring in at only 6-6.75!! He was measured at a flat 6-7 last year. So hes pretty much 6-7.
Shaq said on 5/Jun/08
Gonzalo. Beasley is 6-8 1/4 in shoes but 6-7 barefoot.

lsu alum I've posted pictures with Shaq and 6'3.75" both standing straight and side by side. Shaq didn't have basketball shoes but Wade did. Shaq also had Wade by atleast 9 inches.

Give it up you have nothing. I have pre-draft measurements, 3 different 7'1" claims and countless pictures.

And Kevin Love was actually 6-7 3/4, not the 6-8 1/4 figure I saw on another page. Over inflated him too :)
Shaq said on 4/Jun/08
Yeah I'm shocked Love is only 6'7.75" and Beasley is only 6'7" flat too. Both are listed at 6'10"!
lsu alum said on 4/Jun/08
profes stated that he made calculations based on scientific evidence, and came up with 6'11.75"for oneal.i still think 6'11.5"is his real height, but at least profes is basing his calculations on science, and not what some one says,or the money making draft express, that has never measured anyone, yet prints so called pre draft heights.
Shaq said on 3/Jun/08
Viper, James Gist is 6-7 and Beasley is 6-7 while Love is 6-7.75.

Viper said on 3/Jun/08
Actually, I was wrong. Draft express says Kevin Love was measured at 6-7 3/4. Thats surprising.
Shaq said on 3/Jun/08
Yeah and that measurement makes sense considering I read in a NY Times article back in February that he was 6-8 1/2 barefoot and 6-9 1/2 in shoes.
Viper said on 3/Jun/08
I was sort of right about Kevin Love. Measured in at 6-8 1/4. I pegged him at 6-8 1/2.

i am still debating this because shaq is6'11.5 barefoot.i have no problem with him being listed as 7'1"in shoes.but the truth is he is only 6'11.5".many people share my view.

Well if that's true then post a link to back it up.

lsu alum and many more people think Shaq is a legit 7'1". You realize that now after the pre-draft measurement there is no way Rob is going to downgrade Shaq and there is no way the majority will agree with you unless you back up your statement with a legit link. It's as simple as that.

I have no problem with you debating it or feeling strongly or confident about your statement, but if you want to be taken seriously then back up your claims with links.

Tim Duncan is not 6'11.5 barefoot. There's a sign(*)before his name.

As they say on draftexpress: players marked with an * have an unofficial measurement that look reasonable
Shaq said on 28/May/08
Read the asterisk Viper and Duhon. It says that's an unofficial measurement. So it was probably one reported by the team like the 7'0" barefoot measurement the Raptors reported for Bargnani.

In reality both are probably 6'10".

lsu alum that would make Shaq over 7 feet still and second of all where is the link for that interview?

How about O'Neal's 3 claims of 7'1" plus his 7'1" pre-draft measurement lsu alum?

How you use a 7'2" in shoes claim as proof for Shaq being 6'11.5" is beyond me. I also find it funny you didn't post a link to that interview.
