I was a student-athlete. I came into college, I was 6-3½,165. In the three years I grew to 6-6 and 195 [pounds].
-- Boston Globe, 1993
December 1, 1970, I've grown another half inch so I'm now six foot six, my full height.
A lot of people look at me and say I was born to play basketball. I'm 6-foot-6, weigh between 210 and 205 pounds and my main assets are big hands and big feet. The physical aspects used to carry me.

@Ice: he may be taller than Doc today. Doc is no more than about 6’5 next to Melo now. Peak height 6’5.5-6’6 range

No way Lamleo Ball is almost the same height as Doc

@184guy: yea But Doc may have had slightly less footwear. Doc may have edged Hulk by a hair or they were both 6’5.5 perhaps

That is even Hulk was that tall. In the 90s he looked 6'4 - 6'4 1/2 range

Julius Irving looks identical to Hulk Hogan using Trump as reference

@Canson someone on comments section on Youtube told me, Dr J claimed 6'6 1/2
Canson said on 18/Sep/21
The most he had on Jordan was an inch. If Jordan is listed 6’4.75” he should be 6’5.75”

197-198 peak and 195-196 today.
Canson said on 11/Feb/21
@Editor Rob: when he said he “grew” half inch I wouldn’t be surprised if he measured early morning. He never looks a full 6’6”. Always a figured 6’5.5 was accurate. If not 6’5.75
Editor Rob
sometimes a different time of day can be a reason a celebrity (or anybody) thinks they've grown, as can different equipment.

Always figured he was weak 6 ft 6 peak as opposed to a legit one. Nowadays strong 6'5"

@Viper: I could believe that or perhaps 6’6.25” for Wilkes. At times Magic only had him by an inch in certain pics or maybe 3cm max
viper said on 29/Aug/20
I saw the back of a Wilkes card once that said 6-6.5

He made Shawnee Merriman look 6-1 in a pic
Canson said on 26/Aug/20
@Rising: I could actually see Wilkes being a bit over 6’6”. I wonder if he was 198-199 range or even closer to 199 and rounded down
Canson said on 26/Aug/20
@Rising: agreed! Even going with a 195cm Jordan which is still within realm of possibility. I still couldn’t see 6’6”. I could see a guy like Jamaal Wilkes edging Dr J

@Canson: Thanks! I always enjoy talking with you. I'm glad many other people remember the 6'5.5" claim. Hopefully someone will track it down so this listing can become more precise. Even if Moses Malone was exactly the 6'10" the Sixers listed him at, Dr. J still looked more 6'5" range than a full 6'6" with him. Also, you and I both know Michael Jordan was not quite 6'5". Iirc, you say 6'4.5" while I give him 6'4.75". Either way, he was definitely not taller than Kobe, yet here he is looing more 2 cm shorter than Dr. J as opposed to 3 cm: Click Here and here they are days before Doc's 57th birthday: Click Here He hasn't lost much height, though, so I'd say he's likely down to about 6'5", which is quite good for a man who admitted to being 6'5.5" peak.
Canson said on 23/Aug/20
@Duhon: agreed. That’s what I was saying earlier too that he’s probably shrunken a bit. Peak height 6’5.5-6’6 imho
Duhon said on 20/Aug/20
Dr.J was 64 in that pic next to Carmelo who is a bit over 6'6" and he doesn't seem to be standing as tall as he could there. I could see a peak 20 something Dr.J being a full 6'6" or just about it.

He entered the league or at least the ABA at a time when players were just starting to go by in shoe heights. In the 60s most if not all players went by their barefoot heights.
Jtm said on 18/Aug/20
I also remember him claiming 6'5.5
Canson said on 17/Aug/20
This is an aged Dr J so be very well could’ve lost height but here he is next to Carmelo Anthony. He’s clearly shorter than him. I agree with Rob and Junior that he’s closer to 6’5” today. He may have been 6’5.5-.75 range peak

He also has claimed 6’5 1/2” during his career
Editor Rob
He was taller I'm sure than guys like Jordan back in the day, 6ft 5.5 would be a definite barefoot range.

@Editor Rob: he was taller than Jordan you’re right. But Jordan and also Charles Barkley were Both under 6’5”.
Rising174cm said on 16/Aug/20
I'm certain I read him claim 6'5.5" in an interview 10 or 15 years ago.
Tunman said on 15/Aug/20
Hmmm,I'm sure I saw some sites giving him 6'5.5 so maybe he's similar to someone like Metta World Peace listed 6'7 but only 6'5.5 well at least I'm not ruling that out.

My word - he's huge! I noticed his height before I picked up that he was a basketball player. Then it suddenly made sense!

6ft6 will do nicely. ⛹️‍♂️🏀

A big figure growing up around Philly. I think Dr. J could look 6'5.5"-6'6". Weirdly in photos with the young Charles Barkley, he could look anywhere from taller by a large margin and (when J slouched) even slightly shorter than Charles.
Chris Junior Hernandez 1990 said on 13/Aug/20
Nice adding Rob! Dr J might be closer to 6'6 peak. At 70 now i assume he maybe a full 6'5 1/2.
Editor Rob
I was trying to look for another quote and came across his and it was interesting he gained that height in college! Yeah today maybe closer to 6ft 5 than 6.
