@Arch Stanton
Semmy schlit was maybe one actor who combined bulk and athleticism.Actually even a young Dolph wouldn't stand a chance against him.just think that he's 210 and seems quite fast moving, something very rare at that height.
Statham looked like a shrimp in front of him
@Alex 6'0
I watched Rocky 4 recently, actually sly reached a little over his upper lip in a scene before the fight ,so possibly 7.5" taller assuming Dolph has a big head.BTW he claimed 193 so 6'4.25 between 193 and 194 is fair.

Dolph was on Sportsnation and he stood next to Marcellus Wiley who is listed at 6'4 and is much shorter.

Proof? Picture?
I don't know. I think this is an urban legend. There are good photos and bad photos form people but this is proof:

If Terry Crews is 188-189cm, than Dolph easly 192-193 now. I don't believe it that he shrunk to 188cm.
Phil said on 24/Sep/14
Rob, another poster indicated his being much shorter than Marcellus Wiley (legit 6'4" ex NFL lineman) when they stood face to face on Sportsnation. He isn't more than 6'2" today and keep in mind he's in his late 50s now so a downgrade is totally in order

The bodybuilding website at least calls him "extremely developed" and "perfectly proportioned" in Rocky IV. Just trying to justify myself to any potential pro bodybuilding visitors!!

Nowadays I don't think he's anything to shout about in comparison with a lot of the MMA types, but he is approaching 60! Hard to think that he was only 28 in 1985 and is now nearly 60. Makes us 30 somethings start to feel old doesn't it!
Arch Stanton said on 3/Sep/14
Bruce Lee, probably the most toned guy ever, of course isn't comparable because he was skinny. I'm talking about the balance between bulk and athleticism of the bigger guys, there's not that many actors I can think of anyway who have both at his sort of height.
Arch Stanton said on 3/Sep/14
Perhaps a lot of the more die hard bodybuilders who think the likes of Coleman and Cutler are "perfection" and that bulkier is better would still consider him really skinny in Rocky IV but to most normal people I think he was an icon of extreme fitness back in those days. No doubt some of the MMA fighters and all that are in even better shape but I've not seen an actor at least on screen who looked quite like Dolph did in Rocky IV.
Arch Stanton said on 3/Sep/14
He was really in unbelievable shape in Rocky IV. A lot of guys could train in the gym for years and never come close, genetics do play a role, it's a combination of that and sheer hard work like it was with Arnie. The scene in which he says "I will break you" and they show the side of his arm and the development is just crazy. I'm not surprised a lot of bodybuilders and fitness guys still continue to look at 80s Dolph as an ideal as he had the perfect balance between bulk and athleticism, not just a typical roid muncher bulk type. Nowadays he's still pretty jacked but naturally more normal and thinner looking.
Arch Stanton said on 13/Aug/14
Yeah he looks shorter than normal in that pic and I suspect her heels are big. She does look a very tall girl though and looks like Dolph around the eyes and mouth.

Rob how tall does his eldest daughter look? She looks close to his height in heels although his posture isn't great, so might be a strong 5'11 weak 6' gal? She's stunning isn't she, and looks very strong and athletic, norse goddess sort of thing. I could imagine her as a female action star.
Editor Rob
I would have guessed 5ft 10 but not seen much of her to really say, dolph might be losing a bit there.

I remember a guy named alan Light that claimed 5'10 1/2 , Dolph had like 7 inches on him lol
Phil said on 11/Aug/14
You have to make a downgrade here to maybe 6' 2" or 6'2 1/2". He was just on SportsNation and he and 6'4" Marcellus Wiley stood face to face and Wiley exclaimed : "I'm taller than Drago" and there was clearly more than an inch difference. Maybe age has caught up with Lundgren?

Funny to think in the 80s dolph was around the same height as Fry. In th clips above I'd say Dolph looks no taller than a flat 6'3.

Would you agree rob quite a difference in how much larger fry looks next to johnathan compared to dolph?

@Dmeyer Yea I was gonna say. Dolph struggles to look 6'3 sometimes, today that is. He doesn't have 7 inches on Sly today. In fact, in the picture on JCVD's page, JCVD and Jason Statham surpass Dolph's eye level.

There are plenty of pictures on the net of Sly with 6'4 Dolph Lungren. A 5'7 Stallone would be a full head shorter, so its easy to see how ludicrous that estimate is.

He can't be shorter than 5'8. He's not taller than 5'10.
Emmett said on 20/Jun/14
I don't think he ever tried to exaggerate his height (not that he would need to at 6'4-5), he was just unsure about conversions from centimeters to feet and inches. In the above examples of him claiming height, the centimeter claims are both closer to what Rob has him at.
AlexMahone said on 14/Jun/14
This is one of the most laughable downgrade ever in this board. Really....most people saw a bad picture (Dolph had really bad posture) with Hasselhoff and downgrades Lundgreen to 6.2 (188). So then he is the biggest 188cm man what I've ever seen...so Hasselhoff is NOW 6.4 (193cm). He doesn't loss height, he's definetely NOT 6.3...In the most talked picture with Dolph he straights up, he stands almost on his tiptoes while Lundgreen flexes his leg much more...so what I want to say that he doesn't stand straight...Hasel-hoff isn't taller. Not by this picture. This is the FACT.

James B said on 10/May/14
No chance he was 'almost' 6'4 peak. In his prime would never drop under 193cm even in the dead of night. 6'4 and 6'5 looked believable for him in his early films.

In the 80s and early 90s gave a bigger impression in his movies than 6'4 guys like Steven seagal, and Jeff goldblum,.

Heylo:

Yeah, I don't quite understand where this stereotype about Swedish people having long legs came from (supposedly, it exists). I have met many 6'4" and 6'5" guys who were taller than me due to a larger torso and not the legs, being 6'2" with a 34" inseam myself.

One thing I disagree on however is that long-legged people tend to look shorter on screen than vice versa, which you wrote. Clint Eastwood (quite leggy) usually struck me as a 6'1" man, unless he was standing next to someone. Same thing with Jimmy Stewart. Dolph and John Wayne always appeared bigger imho.

He's one of the few celebs that downplays his height. I met him in the early 1990's. I am 6' 3.5" without shoes and he toward over me. I see him easily at 6'5" without shoes. However, he's a broad guy, big shoulders, and large face.
Heylo said on 15/Mar/14
I Think he was about 6'4, more or less in his peak. But i also think that he can look shorter than he really are in candid pictures because he don't have very long legs for his height. I Think it's usual with swedish people, that their torso is pretty long but not necessarily in disproportion to the legs. Correct me if i'm wrong but i've got that impression of swedish people (yeah, i live in Sweden)

In some scènes of Rocky he could look a really massive guy but that's normal since Sly is only 5'9.In some pics I would say there was only 7-7.25 between them.6'4-4.25 for a peak and 6'3.25-3.5 today is realistic.Losing about 0.75 at 56 is already too much but still possible in his case.At 6'5 the loss would be close to 2in which is impossible.

Peter Ronson, the Icelandic athlete who was in Journey to the Center of the earth with James Mason really looks a spit for Dolph Lundgren at least in body frame/jaw/hair. They have exactly the same sort of build and structure and hair. He looked like some Nordic superman. I was guessing him at 6'4-6'5" and I see he was listed at 6'4". Well proportionally he looked identical to Dolph to me and he was listed at 6'4" rather than 6'5...

I'm surprised he would claim the half inch. I was measured at my annual physical around 7 p.m. after a days work, at 6'5.5" barefoot. I just say 6'5" when asked my height. The half is usually for little guys claiming everything they can.

Hey Rob what do you think of the pic with him, statham and van damme? Tbh if they are both 5'9 range, Dolph can't be more than 6'2.5!
Arch Stanton said on 23/Oct/13
Judging by the photo in Command Performance he seemed to be between 6'3.5" and 6'4" obviously in shoes on the chart. He looked slightly shorter in comparison to Dave Legeno who was 6'4" on the chart, I think it's possible he might measure slightly under 6'3" or 190cm currently at some point in the day, but I wouldn't bet on him being as low as 6'2". I think he easily generally looks 6'3 range.
Robert said on 3/Oct/13
Yeah 193-195 peak
Arch Stanton said on 1/Oct/13
I can believe it. Take a legit 6'4-6'4.5" man who got measured during a check up in his shoes at 6'5-6'5.5". Measured at 6'5.5" he either rounds up to 6'6 or says 6'5.5", or measured at 6'5" in shoes he claims 6'5". It's what most actors in the US say, they state their shoe height or round up a little. That's why most appear to inflate their heights by 1.5 inches when the reality is most of them are telling the truth. Non height fanatics rarely care about their precise barefoot measurement and go by the reading in which they were measured and don't think about shoes. I believe Dolph was 6'4.5" peak barefoot.
RisingForce said on 15/Sep/13
I'm sold on 6'4" peak and 6'3" current, no need for the fractions, imo. Can't believe Dolph claimed 6'6" and use to regularly claim 6'5.5" in the mid 80's.
Arch Stanton said on 13/Sep/13
In Command and Performance from 2009 he's pictured on a height chart and he definitely above 6'3" on it, I'd say 6'3.75" knocking off his hair. But he was probably in sneakers.

Micko Understandable. Its harder to peg Lundgrens peak height when in youth, nowadays based on pics with Hasselhoff he seems to be 6'-2 to 6'2.5ish. A prime height maybe he was 6'3.5ish, who knows about that. Its easier to compare him to Hasselhoff bc he is pictured with 5'8 Proven Rob.
Micko said on 10/Sep/13
I suppose at the end of the day, none of us would really know exactly how tall any of these people really are without measuring them with a tape measure. It's all guess work.
Jordan said on 8/Sep/13
Micko, I am going with what is "Proven" and that is that Hasselhoff here on this site with Rob looks 6'3, not 6'4. And in the pics I posted Dolph is clearly 1" shorter than Hoff. Dolph isn't under 6'2, but I wouldn't say he is over 6'2.5. Maybe in his youth, but now he is a solid 6'2.

That "6'5" guy you have Dolp with in your pic, proof that he is 6'5. I am going with Hoff being 6'3 bc thats what he looks like with Rob. And Dolph is shorter than Hoff. FACT.
Lillo thomas said on 8/Sep/13
Micko how do you know this guy is legit 6-5? Maybe 6-3.5 without shoes and he is claiming his height with shoes about 6-5 ? Dolph is 6-2.5 max today . Dolph was at least 6-3.5 in his prime .
Micko said on 7/Sep/13
The people on here saying that Lundgren is under 6'2" must have down syndrome or something. Have a look at the photo here Click Here the guy he is standing with is 6'5". If Dolph is anything under 6'4" then i must not be able to see properly. Ridiculous comments from ridiculous people.

He looked easily a head taller than Stallone in Rocky 4. This could have happened because Dolph may really have been near 6'5" in his peak and Stallone could be the 5'7" others have guessed him at. However, the cameramen may have done something to create that illusion since his character was supposed to be 6'8".
Viper said on 26/Aug/13
Above 6'2 for Dolph today is a pipe dream. I showed that Terry Crews is shorter than 6'1.25 measured David Garrard and Dolph just has an inch on Crews. Even 6'1.5 isnt out of the question.

He also looked 6'2 max with 6'3.5 Conan Obrien.

One. I can't believe there's a site on the height of celebs. LOL!! But yeah Dolph looked like a giant in R4. As if easily over 6'5. Of course they used certain camera angles and tricks to exaggerate. Seen him standing on the ground next to other male actors who were clearly under 6'. Or were known to be under 6'. And Dolph didn't look noticeably taller. He just happens to have a large frame and good bone structure (face). He has "the look" for male leads in action films.

He said he was measured at 191.5 to my knowledge which is 3 mm shy of 6'3.5" and nearer 6'3.5" than 6'3.25. Add to the fact he is clearly taller than Terry Crews. As for "he was never over 193 peak". Rob has met Cary Tagawa and has him at 5'11", well there is a scene in Showdown in Little Tokyo in which Cary is barefoot and Dolph in boots and I think 6'4.5" would have been roughly what he was, and he had 5 inches on Brandon Lee.

I agree Trent that Lundgren is not as built as most people think, he has a more slim, athletic build than the typical beefcake but he sure as hell had everybody fooled in the 80s. He looked without a shadow of a doubt massive in films like Rocky IV and He-Man at 240-250 pounds and could look 6 ft 6.

On this discussion of Dundgren's build, I wouldn't say he was ever "massive". He was and is pretty muscular with long clavicles, but has never been particularly a thick guy. Comments of being "massive" seem to be more dependent on build than height.

I don't think it's only about the comparison between the two. They also don't look much longer when looking at them individually. But it should be noted that I believe Van Damme is considered leggy for his height.

Yes he did, I heard him say it in an interview. In the scene just before they fight in the "I must break you" he was on a box.

What the hell happened to this guy? He doesn't look as tall as he was supposed to be, I remember some of his old movies and he looked huge, over 6'4 for sure.

He looks always under 6'3 now, already more than 1inch of loss at only 55y.
And then you have guys like Morgan Freeman (who is 75y) and lost barely anything.
James said on 9/Dec/12

No, very tall and rangy I'd describe him as. Dolph Lundgren I don't think anybody can deny looked a huge guy back in the 80s and 90s at least but I think most people's impression of him is bigger than he actually was. They played upon his stature in his films. I mean he even stood on a box in Rocky IV.

Now this guy Ted Cassidy is massive but he had acromegaly problems. In that photo he defines "imposing", looks like Dolph Lundgren's bigger brother in that photo LOL.

Depends, a strong 6'5" guy heavily built, rather like Challenger 15, nobody could deny that the guy is massive. I think a legit 6'5" + if heavily built can qualify as massive.

That's not true at all. Dolph himself has said "I was all legs" before he started bodybuilding.

Geez these big Swedish guys can pull of looking massive at only 6'4.

Men who are or were near 193cm like Clint eastwood' conan o'brien and tom selleck make 6'4 look nothing spectacular.

Of course some people will argue that Dolph was 6'5 peak but I don't thinks that's possible given that he only stands at 6'3 today.

He actually had an inch advantage, how much do you think a lacoste shoe give anyway? Zack looked taller compared to Conan then what Dolph did, and Dolph wore dress shoes aswell.
Arch Stanton said on 11/Nov/12
Doubt he had an inch footwear advantage. Accounting for footwear I saw a 3-4cm difference. Hoff's flat 6'4" is also questionable, he made Gordon Ramsay look 6'0.5" which of course is possible and he was measured 6'1.5" in sneakers. I agree that he looked 189cm next to Conan, but so did Zach Levi recently even accounting for footwear.
James said on 7/Nov/12

Robban said on 7/Nov/12
Arch, I’ve seen your comment about "Dolph recently claimed 191.5 in the gym". In an interview (AdamLive) a woman asked him how tall he is while he responded "I’m 193, or now MAYBE shrunken a bit to 191.5" He didn’t say it that seriously. It was just something he said cause hes aware about his heightloss.
Arch Stanton said on 7/Nov/12
If a 1989 Dolph had appeared in the first series of Baywatch I believe he'd have edged out the Hoff,,,
Arch Stanton said on 7/Nov/12
I think the Hoff is a comfortable 6'4" and that at times his hair can make him look a bit taller yes. 191.5 as he claimed recently looks legit. If he was going to lie he'd say 195cm still wouldn't he! He looks a bit fitter of late, and you can see he's got his new girlfriend Jenny into fitness, look at her collarbone and shoulders in those pics! But to have already shrunk this much since peak is not good, overdid the weights when he was younger I think.
James said on 5/Nov/12

Am I the only one who thinks the height difference is not over an inch? Hasselhoff is still 6'4" at least, looked it next to Gordon Ramsay and many others of late. Dolph said he was measured barefoot in the gym at 191.5" and that's about the height difference I see, not quite an inch. They're almost the same height.

Bruce Lee was 5'7". If you actually see some of his old Hong Kong movies he was actually on the taller side for an Asian of the times, quite a few actors were shorter than him. Greg, read the quote I posted from Dolph, he said he stood on a box for some scenes to make the difference between him and Sly seem bigger. He was never 6'6", he hasn't lost more than 2 inches at just 54 years old. I'm actually quite surprised he'd claim it. As a 6'4" guy when he was younger, there was no reason for him to lie about his height. Maybe it's a case of claiming his height in shoes as Rob has said for other celebrities. He also claimed 6'5 1/2" back in the 80's. Maybe that was his height in shoes and he just rounded up for the 6'6" claim?

RisingForce said on 6/Oct/12
Hey Rob, don't know if you saw this claim, but I thought it'd might be one you'd want to add to the top of his page.

"I'm 6-foot-6," he says. And Stallone? "He's 5-foot-10. I don't know exactly, but around there." Not quite 5-foot-10? "That's what you say. I didn't say it, did I? Whatever it is, there's still a big difference. But still, to make the difference seem even greater, he had me stand on a box sometimes. There's one shot at the end where we touch gloves, and I say a line to him. I'm on a box for that shot." - 1/3/86 Ocala Star-Banner

Strange that he once claimed to be 6'6", though. Just goes to show that any man no matter how tall may inflate their height, but you wouldn't expect a man Dolph's height to claim 2 inches above his actual height, which is about the max you see from most celebrities. I would have given Dolph 195 cm like he also once claimed, but considering the 6'4" listings for his character in Rocky 4 and how "short" he looks the last few years in just his early 50's, it's easier to believe Dolph was never taller than 6'4" than shrinking almost 2 inches.

6'3" today

At his peak, 6'5" out of bed. Today he's probably 6'4" out of bed and a flat 6'3" before sleepytime.

At times he does look 6'5" next to 6'0 Oleg Taktarov but difficult to tell as they're fighting.

These are probably the best pictures of Dolph and Terry Crews:

But they are not the best in the world either. I think Dolph and Terry are pretty eye to eye, nevertheless.

Have met Andrei many times (even have pics of myself with him from summer 2008).. This shows the dramatic height loss Dolph has undergone. I can't explain it, but it's there for the UNbiased eye to see. He's MAX 6'2" today. Was a solid 6'4" at his peak.

Yeah he can look Czech or Russian quite a bit when he has longer hair. Around 2005 I think he was looking very Czech in appearance and his hair is a longer style and darker. But generally he looks almost stereotypically Swedish or Danish to me.

Do u all agry with his face changing.

Yes. He used to give off a more Eastern European (he often played Russian roles) look when he was younger. Nowadays, I think he looks as Swedish or "Germanic" as possible.
