Those of you who say he is only 5'9' is obsered. I just watched Brooklyn's Finest his latest film. He stood next to 5'8 Don Cheadle and towered him by AT LEAST 3 inches. Maybe even 4. He is 5'11 no doubt. For sure a SOLID 5'11 barefoot. 6ft with shoes. If you don't believe it watch Brooklyn's Finest and look at Don CHeadle wh is for sure a solid 5'9 with shoes.

I'm sorry, but Hawke is slouching on both of those pics. If he made an effort to stand up straight as a rail, which Snipes, like Stallone, has mastered, he'd 2.5 inches taller, easily. Also, I don't think you realize how good most elevator pads are nowadays. You can gain 1.5 inches just by inserting an insole into a regular sneaker. If those sneakers already gave him a slight edge on Cheadle via footwear (we can't see what Don was wearing) then that would explain a lot.
I have met Snipes personally back in 2004 and I put him at no more than 5'8 and a quarter. I give him credit though, because again, like Stallone, he really has put a lot of effort into faking it. Danimal says on 7/Jan/10

I'm in the movie business and I can guarantee you that the height someone appears on screen is the worst possible way to estimate an actor's actual height. We have a dozen ways (and reasons) to make someone appear taller, shorter, fatter, skinnier, whatever. Trust the notes from people who met him in person. That's your best source. I was shocked when I read BigKing's comment. So being 5'9"(exactly average height) is embarrassing? And how is 5'9" a short Big King? I HATE when people call 5'9" short, even 5'8" isn't really short much less 5'9". Big King is literally out of his mind. He thinks that at 6'6" he's too short! Yeah maybe too short for an NBA power forward but otherwise 6'6" is tall enough to do anything.
not to be to picky, there's nothing wrong with being tall, but Big King is too tall to be an effective NFL running back, probably too tall for a hockey forward (good height for a defenseman though) and would be hard pressed to pack on the necessary muscle mass for an O or D lineman in the NFL. His chance of becoming a movie extra would be limited especially in a Cruise, Gibson or Snipes film and the only comfortable way for him to fly is first class. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of things tall guys are better suited for (volleyball!) but don't forget the advantages of having a smaller frame. 1 inch error is totally acceptable. Men's height can vary as much as an inch between morning and night. Some of those action stars are indeed shorter than average ppl. He does look shorter there, about 2 inches shorter or close to it as you said. I started watching it on AMC a little later though. I turned it on during the flashback scene when Cutter's wife is killed. So I apologize for my mistake there. But from about 8:43 on they look a lot closer in height. From about 9:12 on they look about the same, Tom might be a hair taller there.
Look at them from 16:33. There they look the same height. The full body shot is about from 16:41 on.

Anon 2008 makes an excellent point. On the police information sheet shown in Blade Trinity, why state Blade's height as 5'8" if the comic character is over six foot? According to the bonus DVDs, Wesley has quite a lot of input in production, and I'm sure he would've said, "Use my real height, five-nine." Not: "Yeah, Blade is a six-footer, but I think we should make him an inch shorter than me." Makes no sense. I reckon Wesley is just over 5'8". He looks 5'8" in White Men Can't Jump. Goodness grief! These reports of 5'5"-5'7" are preposterous. There's a scene in Blade 3 where he (Snipes) is standing face to face with 5'9" Françoise Yip (whose wearing heels in the sequence, rounding her up to roughly around 5'11"). With that said, they were both pretty much even in height, Yip having about a slight inch advantage (which seems logical with her in the heels). So Snipes clearly isn't anything under 5'9". If you were to ask me, I'd say he's a solid 5'10".
As far as the 5'8" wanted poster goes, well that's simply the character's (Blade) listing in the comics. It's sorta like how Wolverine still gets listed as 5'3" to this day. Despite being portrayed by a 6'2" actor (Jackman) in the X-Men (and upcoming spin-off) films. Clearly Hugh Jackman isn't 5'3". ;) ed says on 17/Feb/08

I've seen many movies with Wesley and compared to many other actors like Tommy Lee Jones in "U.S. Marshals" or Ving Rhamesis in "Champion" he is quite tall and I think he actually is 5'10" as he claims (by the way great actor, nice fight style).

Actuly 5'9 is pretty accurate. I was in New York last month and got to meet snipes in a elevator. Im 15 years old and exactly 5'8 and when i seen him in the elevator he was litterly an inch taller than me. I remember watching conan o'brien having wesley snipes as special guest.
He made a comment about the fact that in his movies wesley looks lots taller (it was fun sesing him near conan). People on this site take these stars' heights a little personally, it seems. I'm in the 'Wesley is short' camp for the same reason I'm in the Pacino- Christian Slater-Keifer Sutherland is short camp. I've met them and they've surprised me with their shortness. The Army measures you for height and weight on a regular basis, to measure your body mass index, and to kick your ass if you're trending towards 'fatass' status. So a US Army issue scale put me at precisely 66.5 inches. They have no need to make me feel good about myself, and I've long since become used to my height, so I measure persons I meet relative to my height, and since I'm a decent artist, my eye is pretty good. I actually like Wesley Snipes alot, and have no problem with him acting like an Alpha dude-short people acting like men is alright with me. So when I say he's 5'5", it's because I served him a drink at a function in Downtown LA, and he wasn't quite eye to eye with me, and I was in comfortable shoes. No one here should feel bad for him because he isn't 5'9". He's nice to his wife and can kick your ass all day.

If anyone watches Blade: Trinity, there is a part soon after Blade kills a human unknowingly then they show his arrest sheet in the movie. The arrest sheet states 5'8" along with other characteristics. I doubt they would round down Snipes' height by an inch, unless Blade's comic book height is suppose to be 5'8".
[Editor Rob: this all depends on who is responsible for creating computer screens and if they are given the details or make em up. See Art Malik's page - I mentioned they put 2 different heights on the computer screen, but in reality he's 6ft.

This guy definately looks no more than 5"8. I can't se how anyone really can debate that. Simple reason; watch US MARSHALS. T-Lee Jones and Rob Downey Jr. (5"8) prove that this guy is within the 5"8-5"9 camp, easily leaning towards the 5"8 end of the spectrum. Anyone who says he's 5"11 is clearly a Snipes fan - anyone who says he's below 5"7 is a hater.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Snipes at my kickboxing studio. (The guy that owns the studio, Larry Lam, is a stunt man and fight co-ordinator in moves and a friend of his.) Now I stand 177 cm, 5'9.5". When I met Wesley, I we were both wearing sneakers so I am guessing the effective height increase of the shoes we negated. Wesley Snipes was in Montreal filming Art of War, and he had such a big ego and attitude on set. I know it sounds like I just saying this to be mean, but he is only about 5'7 or 5'8, not much more. Although maybe his fat head makes him think he's taller. Lmeister says on 26/Apr/05

I saw our friend Wesley at the Mission to Mars premiere several years ago. The other thing that makes him hard to peg, is like me, he wears a lot of hats. I would say he looked 5-9 to me that night, but I didn't want to say anything for fear of being disbelieved. Now, after looking at the evidence, I am even questioning that. However, this proves my other point, which is that some celebs can seem taller or shorter on different days. Yeah I kind of notice the same stuff in Wesley's movies, he definately is not a particularly tall guy. We saw that pic of him looking almost as tall as 6'2" Ryan Reynolds, and in Blade II he doesn't look any taller than 5'8"-5'9" Stephen Dorff. I've met Dorff and he's definately somewhere between 173-175 cm, I think Snipes also falls somewhere in this range as well. Perhaps Tom Cruise referred him to his very own shoelift provider! Granted Jessica Biel is supposed to be 5'8" and she looks considerably shorter than Wesley in Blade Trinity, I also think Biel falls quite short of the 5'8" that she claims. I watched Money Train last night and noticed that some fancy camera tricks were done to make Wesley appear a lot taller than J. Lopez first. He also has really thick boots on and still appears an inch shorter than Woody Harrelson at least in the bar scene where Wesley and Woody are both trying to hit on Jennifer...If U pay attention while watching any of the Blade movies U might notice that he is wearing boots with huge heels and I bet that there is some lift inside of them. As opposed to Wesleys boots in Blade II Stephen Dorff is wearing rather normal looking shoes and still appears pretty much the same height as Wesley...Unless Stephen is around 5'10'' and Woody 5'11'' there is no way that Wesley would be taller than 5'8.5''. He is well built so this makes him appear taller than skinnier guys like Stephen and Woody...

Hey Rob, it's me again. Now this is a good one. Today my teacher who has taken another class to see New York City and how things are filmed said that he passed Wesley Snipes while he was filming a film. He intially didn't even notice that he passed by Wesley Snipes because he was so small. He says that Snipes is no more than 5 foot 6, maybe 5'7" tops. My teacher is 5'9"-ish by the way and said that Wesley was at least two inches shorter. Plus I've seen pics of Wesley with sneakers and he is defintely on the short side. |
