Of course he could have grown a little more, I just put the video for reference that sometimes players give very different answers about their height in different moments in their life/ career. Barkley himself has admitted he's 6'4", 6'4.75", 6'5.5" for example.

There can be nothing gained from that photo really, other than he is close to 7 ft as it introduces perspective. I want shaq to be over 7 ft of course but all the evidence of shaq standing next to men over 7 ft makes it very hard to believe as he seems to have good posture. A man who is over 7 ft would not look noticeably shorter than other men who are known to be of that height. It just doesn't add up.
In the interests of accuracy I vote for a downgrade also.

Rifle, that is 1 of 2 measurements from the camp/draft in 1992. He was measured at 7'0.66" and 7'0.88".
He still looks about an inch shorter than legit 7'1" guys like Mutombo or Wilt and at his lowest could be 6'11.75"

I firmly believe Shaq to be 6'11.5" in his prime. Look at the video where he is standing with Wilt and Kareem. Unless he is bare feet and the others are not and despite camera angle it is fairly clear that he is a shorter man than both these huge men, who are also much older than him and inevitably will have lost a little height ( even if small amount ).
Look at the photos of Yao with Shaq. If shaq was over 7ft he would not look so 'small' compared to yao.

Agree with Andrea, no need to change the listing. Remember a guy his size will shrink 3-4cm In a day, he likely measures 7ft2 after a good nights sleep, and a fraction under 7ft1 at night. So thi is a re case where a fraction under at his lowest doesn't really mean much.

I saw a picture of shaq with garnett. Wow! Garnett looked like a child! Shaq looked an easy 3" taller and who knows how much more weight? If shaq is 7' even this would put garnett at 6'9? I think shaq is 7'1 to 7'1 1/2.

Kareem was measured 7'1 and 7/8" Wilt 7'1 and 1/16th but in retirement he was measured at 7'1/2" I'm going to say Bill Walton is 7' as any people said listed shorter to not be labeled a freak. paul and wade were both measured barefoot and their heights documented by the nba. we don't need estimations on those guys heights because we know what they are. wade was noticeably taller than zach levi on leno and rob has photos with levi.
by all means throw up these shaq and bosh/jermaine o neal comparison. bosh was clearly shorter than Pau Gasol on video side by side and i doubt anyone thinks gasol was taller than shaq? shaq also looked about 2 inches taller than kevin garnett on video and garnett i would assume is taller than both bosh and jermaine o neal.

paul and wade were both measured barefoot and their heights documented by the nba. we don't need estimations on those guys heights because we know what they are. wade was noticeably taller than zach levi on leno and rob has photos with levi.
by all means throw up these shaq and bosh/jermaine o neal comparison. bosh was clearly shorter than Pau Gasol on video side by side and i doubt anyone thinks gasol was taller than shaq? shaq also looked about 2 inches taller than kevin garnett on video and garnett i would assume is taller than both bosh and jermaine o neal.

When he is closer to the camera he looks not only taller than Shaq but also taller than Kareem, which is not true. If you go onto the UK's NHS website and look up puberty - symptoms they say "your growth should slow down and you should stop growing at around 17 years of age (but your muscles may continue to grow)". Of course there are always exceptions, and it does indeed seem some men continue to grow after this age. All the best with your vertical endeavours !

Sure G, you can grow past 18 if you're a very late bloomer or had poor nutrition or disease/illness during your childhood. You would be in the top 5th percentile. That's only 5 in 100 that will grow after 18. People often confuse thickening growth/weight (which can increase until 21) with lateral grow, which stops at 16-18.

I am pretty sure Shaq was 6'11" on his college listing. I saw that a long time ago, but considering men don't grow much at all past the age of 16 unless they have pituitary problems, i think its fairly safe to say it is roughly his adult height, IF it was taken barefoot. Also, if you want evidence to support this, find the photo's of Shaq with Yao Ming or Calvin Lane ( ~7'4" ). He is obviously a lot smaller than both of those giant men, both in terms of height and frame size. I am pretty sure Shaq was 6'11" on his college listing. I saw that a long time ago, but considering men don't grow much at all past the age of 16 unless they have pituitary problems, i think its fairly safe to say it is roughly his adult height, IF it was taken barefoot. Also, if you want evidence to support this, find the photo's of Shaq with Yao Ming or Calvin Lane ( ~7'4" ). He is obviously a lot smaller than both of those giant men, both in terms of height and frame size. With out question Wilt was a little taller than Shaq, and Wilt was a shade taller than 7ft 1" tall. So I believe when States he is really 6ft 11", he probably is correct.

May I suggest that if Shaq indeed wears extra thick shoes it is not so as to appear taller. You're thinking of Robert Downey Jr. or Al Pacino. Shaq probably has bad feet. I screwed up my feet playing basketball too. It's a very common ailment. Robert Parrish the former seven foot center for the Boston Celtics had a special foot warmer to loosen up his feet before he went in. I remember once when they needed him in the game but they had to wait until his feet came up to correct operating temperature.
Big guys often have bad feet like Mark McGuire - only 6'5" but height is a disadvantage in baseball (big strike zone) unlike basketball where it is an advantage. Anyway McGuire missed a whole season in the prime of his career because of his feet. I'm sure he also wears big funny shoes to protect his feet.
It's not just the shorty Hollywood movie stars who wear big shoes.

Does look a legit 7'1". He's head and shoulders above almost everybody. Looks as if he'd weigh about 23-24 stone. Most NBA height are inflated by about 1.5 inches, Yao Ming 7'3"? 7'4.75" more like.

Shaq himself stated in an Howard Stern interview that he was 6'11". When Howard confronted him of not being 7'2". Straight from the Horses mouth. He said it was because it was better for his marketing and to intimidate other teams, because 7' is a height that is so rare, and almost no one gets to.

He referred to himself as "7 foot, 335lbs" on Conan last night. Not sure if it was a re-run, but it was recent because they were discussing what he's doing now that he's retired.

its funny though none of the bodybuilding magazines or reports from back in the mid 1990s describe him as 7'2 or more isn't it, 99% of them have him down at 7'1 and 7'0 and his weight around 380lb

Dalip Singh was at least 7'2" peak. He's had several knee surgeries and I think he's about 7'1" now. Shaq is at least 7'1". Shaq is either over 7'1" or he always wears those crazy thick soled sneakers with 2 1/2" soles.
Shaq and Khali may be the exact same height now, but Khali used to be taller than Shaq in his prime.

Theres only one picture of khali and shaq and in that one khali was half inch taller, i dnt know which other picture people have been seeing.
When both the big show and shaq wore dress shoes, shaq barely had an inch on big show, the one wear he wore trainers is the one where there was a greater distance. The great khali has a higher height differential then the big show with shaq.

OK....found out a couple of facts on Shaq. He was measured & weighed twice leading up to the '92 draft. At one he was 7'0 5/8" & 301 lbs....at the other he was 7'0 7/8" & 303 lbs. In 2000-2001 season with the Lakers he weighed in at 327 lbs at training camp. Also, at one point after a injury kept him from practicing & performing any cardio for about 6 weeks in one season with the Lakers, he got as heavy as 368 pounds!!!

my friend who is 6 foot 8 took a picture with Shaq and I would say there is roughly 4 inches between them (he is slightly over Shaq's eye level) so I would put Shaq probably closer to 7 feet than 7 foot 1, but I find it hard to believe he is under 7 feet.
