Just saw pics with him and Cheryl Cole. Now she is about 5 '2 ish, was wearing 3 1/2 inch heels. Tom looked only just over 3 inches taller and wearing shoes. Proportionaly 5 '8ish seemed reasonable.

Hardy is one the most honest 5'9 actor in this site and i would think of 5'9 1/8 to 5'9 1/4 max for him. Another honest 5'9 would be Jamie Fox claiming about 5'9 and look 5'9.5" consistently and sometimes pull off 5'10 with fellow actors when he wear boots.

There are plenty of photos of him next to to 5'8 - 5'9.5 range guys. Specifically check out the ones next to 5'8.75 Shia LaBeouf, 5'8 range Gary Oldman and 5'8 range Patrick Stewart, Rob has this listing bang on.

I think he is around 170-173 barefoot or in normal shoes and 176 in his magic hollywood shoes, I heard rumors that he wore special boots to be around Christian Bales height in Batman so if you think about it, its not too much of a stretch.

@delancey couldn't agree more! 5'8-5'10 is within the average range. Being honest here there are times where I do feel short at 5'9 but most of the time I just feel average, probably because my friends are mostly above average height and are tall. I am just over 5'10 in worn out trainers so I'm content with my stature.

Trust me I've met Mel Gibson on two occasions he is tops 5"8 i'd say 172cm mel is a little taller than tom hardy by all accounts so around 5ft7.5.would be accurate for hardy.

In places like USA, Canada, UK, Australia 5'8 is a limbo height, it's neither short nor average.
A solid 5'8 guy like Rob isn't short, and I don't consider myself short either at 176 outta bed, 174.5 daytime, 174cm evening.
Weak 5'8 ie when someone drops into the high 5'7 range at night is where I think the "high end of short" starts.
At 5'8 you can "feel" short though, as I said It's right on the precipice, with great posture you can look average enough.

I don't think you will even see a 1inch difference in reality and 5'8 is in the normal range. Average is just above 5'9 +/- 3 inch and a 5'8 guys head would end at the beginning of the nose of a really large Dude of 6'5 and still wouldn't look very short just shorter.

I am siding with Ray on this one. Guys are always exaggerating their height. Looking at the height claims of any actor and its generally one or more inches than their actual height. If he says he is 5 foot 9 he is probably less than 5 foot 9. But the measure of a man is his output not his height so whatever his actual height is, he is still a great actor.

@gjghjgjg I'm guessing you are a naturally stock and thick framed 5'9" guy. Hardy is clearly quite thing. I'm 5'9" with decent muscle and weight 165. I weighed under 145 before I started working out. I think Hardy is in the same boat. Keep in mind McGregor is supposedly under 150 now.

@Ely people do shrink actually, as your spinal discs start to flatten when you get older, it usually starts in your mid to late 30s but if you keep healthy, have good posture and decompress the spine with stretches for example, you'll reduce your natural shrinkage. Plus when everyone wakes up they are taller as the spinal discs have hydrated as you're not compressing your spine through gravity when you're in bed. But when you get out of bed the discs begin to compress more and more till the end of the day and it could result into losing 0.5 to even a full 1inch if not a little more and this is because of compression through gravity.

I think now cuz he's almost 40, he wakes up at 5'9.5 176.5cm then drops down to 5'8.75 174.7cm ish. Well that's what I think. So it's perfectly reasonable for him to be 5'9. In his prime I don't he would of dropped any lower than 175cm.

Have been watching Taboo (great show!). Looks a comfortable 5'9 in his scenes with 5'8 listed Franka Potente, both wearing shoes with a heel (who know's if there are any lifts involved).

Editor Rob it's funny, I see the site from my administration panel and don't read the comments or scroll down like the visitors, so I only realised just now that he has 97 votes and literally it is right on 5ft 9, so I feel that's a good sign that most people are believing this guy is an honest guy and a top actor.

Maybe he really doesn't care about his height and he says 5'9" based on the fact than we are straight and had good posture just sometimes. My guess is 5'9.5" for him, maybe 5'9.75". Great actor!

My boyfriend Jim sparked my ongoing interest in him. It doesn't surprise me at all that he is honest about his average 5ft9. Why should he be? You don't ALWAYS need the extra inches to be suitable for the 'big man' roles, though of course, it helps! I thought he was brilliantly nasty in 'the Revenant' - a supervillain, and I keep finding him in other movies. He is definitely one to watch!

We have discussed that picture before. First of all Tom's footwear has the bigger and higher heel and secondly there might be some lifts inside as well. In the picture Scott has taken with Rob we are not sure about footwear differences. Definitely when they are asked to take pictures for announcing their height they will be more cautious about what to wear to look taller.

Lynx, we don't know about Tom's Footwear in the picture you posted. And Joel's posture is very bad in that photo. In most pictures he is "short". He looks the same height as Wahlberg, just compare Wahlberg near DiCaprio with Hardy near DiCaprio. Or compare Tobey Maguire near DiCaprio and Hardy near DiCaprio. Even Christoph Waltz. All these actors look the same height as Tom Hardy. It is obvious that he is shorter than 5'9 barefoot. @RichardHY Well, One of the reasons that 5'9 sounds so short these days is that 5'7 or 5'6 guys claim 5'9. Specially actors. I think Hardy's case is the same. 5'9 actors claim to be 5'11 and sometimes even 6'0. Note that Hardy wears lifts a lot.

Editor Rob I don't think Hardy is a guy who would drop much under 5ft 9 at all, in fact he might be a guy who holds a comfortable 5ft 9 most of the day, so out of bed near 5ft 10.
